I am using russian birch plywood, which is mainly use in the furniture industry as drawer sides, mostly. I had someone laminate me 4 sheets of 1/2 thick, which gave me a big piece of about 2 inches thick.
It comes in 5 x 5 sheet, but can be found in 4 x 8. I cannot get the exact same shades of regular riflestock colored plywood, because what they do is laminate pre-stained layers. I start with an all-wood product, and the stain gives the finish.
Also, each layer is crossgrain to the next. On riflestock colored plywood, all the layers are in the same direction.
So my stocks are a bit more solid....I think
