I`m curious if my Benelli M4 can accept chokes?

A quick search reveals many posts suggesting it uses Beretta/Benelli Mobilchokes but then there are other posts which suggest it cannot accept chokes

Which is it and how can I check?

I think the 14" version is fixed choke (MOD), but the 18.5" version definitely accepts chokes. They are mobilchokes if I recall. I have a full set - but if I'm being honest I just keep the stock MOD choke in 90%+ of the time. :)

Perfect, it's the 18.5" variant that I have

So how many chokes are in the set? And how do I know what to use for the intended target?

IC is typically the best with larger buckshot but smaller buckshot and birdshot almost always benefit from a tighter choke unless you're talking about FliteControl style rounds or wad retarding chokes.

I personally like having a super tight extended choke for getting tight patterns with cheap target loads, which otherwise spread too rapidly to be of much practice value out of a more open choke.

Pardon my ignorance but what is "IC"?

Improved Cylinder, a very mild degree of choke that's the second most common constriction found on tactical style shotguns aside from the straight wall Cylinder choke.

IC tends to barely pattern more tightly than Cylinder but is more consistent, being a bit less likely to clump shots together or throw fliers.

Whats the relevance with that?

Ease of cleaning and corrosion resistance vs a bare steel bbl mostly, but it pretty much makes it impractical to have any additional barrel interior work done, and few gunsmiths will even consider it.

Makes sense

So what kind of work would they potentially do? Some type of other coating or modifying the barrel itself?

Just pulled my M4 from the safe and it has got a choke fitted (not sure what kind)

Somehow I got it into my head that M4s don't have/can't fit chokes so I`ve never noticed before even when I cleaned it

So when you pick up additional chokes is the wrench to remove them included or do you have to buy that separately?

Threading for choke tubes or altering the interior barrel profile.

For example opening up a fixed choke, lengthening the forcing cone, or installation of the Vang Comp system and other machined barrel system mods.

So now that I`ve deduced that I need Mobil Chokes where can I pick up a set and the tool to swap them out?

I have searched online but not had much luck

I recently did some research on this and could not find anyone in Canada who could thread for Mobil Chokes. Same thing in the US with the exception of Briley. I am sure it would be a different story if you were in Europe.

*Thread revival*

So I finally found the tool to remove my choke today to try to figure out what it is (full etc) and theres zero markings on it which surprised me

Anyways I measured it and found that there is 0.035" difference from one end to the other. A quick search suggests this is a "Full" choke - does this sound correct?

I use this gun for competition (combat shotgun for now) where the targets are mostly knock down style at close range (10 yards to 50 yards max, been using buckshot for the closer stuff and slugs for the 50 yard knock down steel) - is the choke I got fitted the best bet or what should I be looking at?
