Benelli M4 Chokes?

*Thread revival*

So I finally found the tool to remove my choke today to try to figure out what it is (full etc) and theres zero markings on it which surprised me

Anyways I measured it and found that there is 0.035" difference from one end to the other. A quick search suggests this is a "Full" choke - does this sound correct?

I use this gun for competition (combat shotgun for now) where the targets are mostly knock down style at close range (10 yards to 50 yards max, been using buckshot for the closer stuff and slugs for the 50 yard knock down steel) - is the choke I got fitted the best bet or what should I be looking at?

That is a Modified choke, which I believe comes standard on the M4

Benelli marks their chokes with notches at the muzzle end, so it can be seen when screwed into the barrel. Three notches, like yours, is Modified.

Full=I
IM =II
M =III
IC =IIII
C=IIIII

Holy! I didn't even notice those until you mentioned it - I figured there would be something stamped/written on the side - thanks!

So is a modified a good bet for the application I described?

Mod is usually a good all around choke for a lot of people but you need to pattern it at the various distances you will be shooting in competitions etc, then you will see what pattern it throws with buckshot at different distances as well as poa/poi for slugs.

I just did this for an 870 at 25 & 50yards with 00buck and slugs, IC was not bad at 25yrds with slugs and buck. Mod was great at 25 and 50 with both, mod was my choice. Slugs are poa/poi and buck and birdshot pattern a touch high from my poa, which is exactly how I like it. Especially for hunting grouse at ranges I see them. Put the sights on their head and I rarely get pellets in the breast, pretty much takes their head right off sometimes if I get close enough. Bang, flop.

The Benelli chokes are labelled on the side you might have to look closer but the botched on the end are a quick indicator of what choke it is.

I have a Benelli SBE I that came with a full set of 5 chokes so I can interchange between the two if I need to. I run IC for slugs and picked up a Pattermaster short range tube for everything else.
