Benelli M4 newbie question

Another newbie but urgent question. Someone had disassemble the gun and I do not know how to assemble it back. The part I have problem is putting the Axle bush, 266J (Retaining ring), 267J (retaining spacer) and 268J (retaining spring) into the receiver assembly. I do not know how to fit the 3 parts to the bush. Please help. I know I am dumb but I am not the one who disassemble it. I bought the gun from someone who replace the whole part to attach a shotshell holder, in which for me I do like the model. Anyway, please help me!

First you put in the Spring, (make sure it goes in all the way), then put the C-clip onto the retaining pin, THEN the spacer/washer on after. The order will be: Retaining pin HEAD, then C-clip, THEN washer. Move all those to the retaining pin head (so you have all the pin to work with). The using the base of the retaining pin, push the arm of the spring out of the way and push the pin into the hole. THEN push the washer all the way down into the hole too. Then you install the C-clip to retain everything.

You'll need a pair of C-clip pliers (or a pair of fine needle nose pliers, they should fit nicely into the holes of the C-clip), you use them to squish the gap together and it will fit into the space, then let it go slowly (making sure the C-clip is flat to the washer) and make sure it seats into the little space for it.

A little bit confusing. Mind to post me some pics? Thanks a lot!

Okay lemme see what I can do ;)

This is what you should start out having: (from left to right) Trigger group pin (Pin), Retaining spring (Spring), Retaining Spring washer (Washer), and washer retaining C-clip (C-clip) as well as a pair of needle nos pliers.
triggerpin01.jpg

FIRST thing to do, is orient the parts on the pin like this. You want the c-clip to go on first, then the washer to go on second.
triggerpin02.jpg

Once the parts are on, move them to the HEAD of the trigger pin, so they're out of the way.

Get the spring ready to go in.
triggerpin04.jpg

Put the spring in all the way to the bottom (it will want to get stuck in the groove that the C-clip sits in, so push it down with the pliers). Orientation of the spring does NOT matter.
triggerpin05.jpg

You will see the spring leaves a bigger half of the hole open, take the trigger pin (with the stuff still held at the top) and force it into the LARGER half of the hole. It does not have to go further in than the little cutout.
triggerpin06.jpg

THEN drop the washer down all the way. If the spring has popped up, use the washer to force it back down.
triggerpin07.jpg

Drop the C-clip down into the hole, and using your pliers, pinch the 2 ends closed and use your finger to push the rest of it down.
triggerpin08.jpg

Once in place let the C-clip go, and make sure its flat. If its not QUITE all the way down, push the trigger pin all the way in so it seats the C-clip.
triggerpin09.jpg

If you didn't need to push the C-clip in further in the last step, the LAST-Last step is to push the pin in.

As a test, Take your charging handle and unlock the pin by pushing it with the tip of the charging handle, and pull the trigger group pin back out as far as it goes, and it shouldn't come out. (it should be retained from falling out by the pin!) If this is the case, push it back in and function test your gun, and you're good to go!

Reads a bit more complex than it is, I did it twice tonight replying to this :p

It is so clear to me now. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your help. I will try it tonight!

Glad ya got it, its a bit of a PITA if you dont know where things go :)

F22_RaptoR very impressive that you took the time to photo document the OP's question, says something about character.

Thanks, always willing to help out a new owner of this fine shotgun! Besides, gives me an excuse to use my Camera :p

Sorry guys. Another question again. I recently have added the Mesa Tactical shotshell Carrier to my M4. For the installation the holder has to replace the factory top rail. And when I try to put on my Eotech EXPS3 on the new rail I found out the sight does not lock tight on the rail no matter how I adjust the sight mount. The sight although attachs on the rail it can still slightly move back and front. Is the rail defected? I can use the sight on any other firearm without this problem. Anyone try this shotshell Carrier before?

i had one but took it off. the threads are not designed to take so much weight, after about half a year, the threads were about half stripped out..... as a result the factory rail is now epoxied on. a few guys on ar15 had similar problems. i ended up cutting the top of and using double sided outdoor rated tape to put the shell carrier on and for 2 years now its been 100% :p one reason tho is the screws they originally used were cheap carbon steel screws, the newer ones are supposedly better... if you decide to use it, do NOT tighten the scews more than 18 inch pounds and use a good thread locker.

as far as the rail is concerned, the mesa rails are NOT in spec, but if anything were wider than factory rail was. is the eotech bottoming out on the tightness? or maybe something preventing it from clamping fully?

I had the same problem on the M4. Mesa Tactical 6 shot and ARMS 17 mount with Eotech.
The rail spaces are not up to spec, as F22raptor pointed out. I removed the Eotech for fear of recoil/movement damaging it.

That said, the factory M4 rail is not up to spec either, at least the one I had.
