I am thinking about buying a Benelli MR-1 pistol grip carbine. It has a rail and iron sights. I would like to put a small red dot with QD ring(s) on it.

My question is will a small red dot like a Vortex Sparc or a Bushnell TRS-25 in a low 30mm ring co-witness with the Benelli iron sights?

As a back up i have a Vortex Sparc and i see my metallics sights with no interference thru the Vortex... JP.

Neither of those optics fits in a 30mm ring, they have integral or bolt-on mounts. With the Sparc you can use QD mounts designed for Aimpoint Micro's. With the TRS-25, you're stuck with the factory mount.

The TRS-25 is about as low as you can get. If it won't co-witness with it's factory mount, nothing will.

Just put the Sparc on the picci rail it wont block your metallique sight and carry the allen key 10 sec it is off... JP.

but he wants to co-witness...........

Note you can remove the rear sight to allow more room to use different height rings if you want to try to co-witness.

Mine will be in my hands in a few hours...I'll see if i can take a quick measurement for you guys.

I'm going the millet DMS route, not sure if I want to leave the rear sight off or use high rings to go over the irons, or even use see through rings to allow use of both. The biggest issue imo is the cheek weld due to the angle of the stock.

I have an eagle cheek rest that I will toy with as well.

I'll see if I can report more later.

Will report back soon.

I never considered the Millet DMS but it looks like a great choice especially since the MR-1 can go into the bush.

Please let me know how it works on your MR-1. BTW do any site sponsers sell the DMS?

Well, since your lowermainland as well...just bought mine at lever for $325...can be found online for $20bux cheaper or such but it equals out being local and saving on the shipping.

They have the atacs camo model and black.

This millet DMS has great reviews as value for what you pay...I was trying to go with a burris ar332 but they are sold out everywhere...only thing about the millet is that its BIIIIIIIIIG for a 1x-4x. But playing with it, I really like this new fandangled scope style which incorporates a CQB red dot with magnification option. Sort of a jack of all trades but master of none deal, but perfect for our tacticool/varmint/target needs.

In terms of the mr1...well....its all about playing with the scope height...to keep the irons or to remove....1 more hour till I can pick her up! Getting antsy now :p

I guess i am not clear if you put your Sparc on your piccy rail it will co-witteness with your metallics sights you will see them thru the Spark if yo put your Spark on just adjust the red dot ( or green ) on your metallics sights you are now bore sighted the red dot is on the front post like the dot on a i... JP.

So the Sparc mounted driectly onto the MR-1 rail co-witnesses. Cool caramel, thanks.

BTW if by chance your free tmrw, I'll be takin her to lever to get rings and mounted.

If you wanted to take a look and see what works for you, feel free to swing by and handle it firsthand...they have a trs-25 in stock you can see if that co-witnesses like you asked although I think it would sit too low.

Thanks Chuck. I'm trying to find out if WSS has an MR-1 in stock in Langley as I'll buy it tomorrow but they are hard to reach by phone.

Ok, taking a look at this front post and the height of it compared to the height of the included rail, I would say you cannot co-witness...you might get a 1/4 of the post in the bottom of your sight, but there's no way this thing fully co-witnesses.

It's real "fun" to attempt to mount rings with the rear sight still in place....:D

Well my rear sight is currently off...

I'm considering whether i want to use lower rings and keep the rear sight off, or use high rings and put the rear irons back on...

Initial thoughts...

-Mag release is a #####, even using USGI mags its a pain to get mags out.
-Bolt release isn't that bad being where it is, just different.
-Definately going to look into chopping the 20" barrel down to 18.5" its way too long of a pencil the way it is imo.
-Bit of a pig, but considering its argo system, its acceptable considering its probably dead reliable.
-shoulders easy, to be expected considering the stock is modeled after the m4 super 90

Definately not as a fast a gun as an ar, but it is what it is and easy to clean/uber reliability is always a plus in my books since I'm not going to be needing any super high speed tactical doorkicker action.

Does anyone know if the top picatinny rail is loctited on? Mine has been reversed at one point, wondering if I should re-loctite it back before scoping.

Rifleman extra high rings use with the scope permit the full use of metallics sights with still a good cheek weld for the scope use that is the way i am set up with my Sparc and my scope i never loose the use of my metallics sights... JP.

You guys find the cheek-rest acceptable with EXTRA-HIGH rings?

I have an eagle attachable cheek rest that looks nice on her that I COULD use if I go that route and use extra-high rings...but I'm not overly fond of having an optic too high over bore.

What are your guys opinions?
