Made and experiment today at the range, took my 4 LAR-15 magazines ( 40 ) and shoot them as fas as i could down the target, as soon i was finish with them i took the original one with 5 of my best 52 gr Amax reloads and on the sand bags i did a nice 1.5 group... That criogenik barrel just dont get affected by heat no string and good group after 40 shots in 90 sec., way to go Benelli... JP.

Take or add 10 sec...Yes but changing the mag is as long as emptying it the mr-1 is a very fast semi auto a lot faster than a mini -14, it did start is life as a military rifle and the Argo system is flawless and maintenance free ( almost )... JP.
As a military rifle? I know the Argo system was designed for their military shotguns. But that's about it.
In terms of a military rifle beginning, the ergonomics are crap. Tried to eject the mag with your shooting hand lately? Unless you're deformed the mag release is too far forward. Also charging handle on the right? The Germans had it right in 1942, the Russians screwed up in the 50's and we've finally come back to correcting the problem. But not the MR1.... Maybe the mag changes are where the extra 10 seconds came from?
I really wanted to like this firearm. I'm very happy with my Storm carbine. But... this thing has all the same flaws as the Storm plus a lot more. Try mounting sights on it. Unless you're planning on staying with the ghost sights, it sucks for mounting optics. The stock is just a shotgun pistol grip. Come on they could have done better than that. I checked one out in the store with the idea of buying one. I thought it would be nice to have a Storm pair. I left without the MR1.
It's an ok firearm with lots of ergonomic issues. I say ok, because I hear they are reliable and go bang. But that's about it.
They may have made it with the idea of "military" applications but I don't see any military ever adapting this rifle. I wouldn't even consider it an acceptable carbine for Police use. Let's face it, if this thing wasn't non restricted, no one would buy one.
Sorry to vent but this is one firearm I wouldn't put on my list unless it is one heck of a deal, or you have a specific use for it that it fits. IE you'll keep the ghost sights and are just looking for a ranch rifle that takes your AR mags.
It's definitely not a go fast rifle. The mag release simply sucks. I like the bolt on the right but then again I love my SKS!

Epps has the MR-1 model with the M4 style retractable stock.

I completely agree with you about it's strengths being non restricted and uses LAR10 mags. Again I looked at this rifle and was prepared to buy it on the spot.
But the ergos are not good. The ergos on this rifle are 1950's.
Try one out. You'll see.
This rifle does have a place. It's non restricted, a good name, uses AR mags, semi auto and by all accounts reliable. But it doesn't have a place as a military or police carbine. Not in this day and age. It's more the modern Mini14. The ergonomics are pretty much the same.
I like mine. Takes a bit of getting used to but its nothing major.
I do agree that its not a go-fast rifle. It does make a great civie rifle.

On the topic of pencil thin barrel, there is a past mr1 thread where I posted information I found directly relating to Benelli's cryogenic treated barrels allowing the barrel to NOT have any shot stringing during rapid fire. This allows them to use a thinner barrel and not worry about heat affecting accuracy.
It fills a niche right now. We have nothing non-restricted in this price range that takes ar mags. SU-16 will fill the lower end but is an all plastic economy rifle, SIG fills the upper end with an adapter, AR-180b's are gone. Mini-14's take ridiculously overpriced propietary mags, VZ-58's if the mag adapter ever occurs will fill the low-med range, FN2000 and tavor are their own upper end niche. XCR depends on who you ask if its worth the med-upper range of $$$...
Until something else pops up that gives you a reliable, quality brand in this price range, the MR1 fills that void.

For optics i'd go with a burris fast fire or something simular, don't think there is a need for magnified optics on this beast, same as most ARs....
