I had previously posted some pics of my "new to me" MR1 and was informed by some of the knowledgeable members here that my P.E.P.R. was mounted backwards which explained the regular failure to eject as the brass was hitting the mount nut and falling back into the action:mad:

I tried reversing the mount, but it made the eye relief too long for the scope that came with. As I wanted to use the scope I picked up a set of medium burris rings and mounted the scope lower and farther back. The cheek weld and sight picture is much better with this set-up but it required the removal of the rear iron sight. This wasn't a problem as it is attached by 2 torx screws.

Sighted in the irons before I took them off, incase I want to remount at some point and accuracy was better than I thought it might be with the large rear peep.

This was 5 at 50m with the iron sights and Rem. UMC 55gr FMJ

Was a blustery day at the range but wanted to get some rough sighting in done and try it on coyotes soon.

5 at 100yds with Federal 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tips, which has been the most accurate out of this gun for me so far.

Where did you get your P.E.P.R. mount if you don't mind me asking?

It came on the gun with the scope, so I'm not sure where you could source one. From what I can gather they are intended for a long eye relief scope and what it came with was a Burris 3-9x tactical. It was tough to pick up the rear ghost ring anyway with it shadowed by the mount/scope.

Be2man I remember reading somewhere that the rear sight was not supposed to be removable on the MR1. Was the article i read wrong or did you go at it with a blowtorch and sledgehammer to get it off? Im pretty curious about this because the rear sight interfearing with optics was pretty much the only reason i wasnt considering the MR1 on my short list of black rifles to buy in the near future. Can the rear sight be easily put back on?

The range is in Ontario, west of Kitchener, we just had a big thaw and lost all our snow, back to -8c today.
Yes the rear sight was easy to remove, just attached by 2 torx head screws about 1/4" long. They might have had some thread locker on from the factory and maybe mine had been removed previously but I just took them out with a screwdriver and a torx bit. As much time as 2 screws take is the time to put on and off. There's 2 threaded holes in the top of the reciever that we filled with flush length machine screws? at the gun shop where I bought the mounts. The scope seems to maintain point of impact going on and off so is relatively easy to switch from irons to scope. That's why I was sighting in with the irons

I'm going to attempt using the NcStar "extra-high" rings....;)

Those look like they might be a good option as well if you want to maintain the irons. I'd like to see them on the gun before I bought them but that's tough with mailorder. My local shop didn't have any mounts that'd work with the 30mm tube. It's still gonna be a compromise between optimal head position/cheek weld and using both sights.

Is that normal groups for that gun because my mini 14 will out shoot that and I have way less invested in it and as soon as I get done load developement I hope to post my results

Looks nice I want to get a nice scope for my MR1. I hear there is a problem with cheek weld because the stock is so low how do you like it.

problem solved if you get an sl8 :D but that would be a nice coyote rifle, I just think the mr1 is a little ugly... but if it is dependable and accurate enough, theres nothing wrong with gettin one!

I had a previous 5 shot group at just under 1 1/2" at 100yds with the federal 55gr on a nicer day. Yesterday was a resight-in after changing the scope mounts. Was about a 30km wind quartering from behind. I don't handload at this point and I don't know what kind of results other's have been getting. I looked at the Mini 14 target but it just didn't do it for me, fairly heavy and bulky IMO in the "more accurate" configuration.
Reading some on the Benelli R1 some report accuracy improving after several hundred rounds.
I wasn't getting very good consistency with any of the cheaper FMJ rounds at 100yds.

The cheek weld is perfect with the factory irons. The higher you go from that the higher your head will be off the stock

I'm curious as to how this rifle would fair at a tactical rifle session. It might be a bit long and a bit heavy but with 10 round mags I've got to consider it over a restricted AR. It would certainly be more comfortable than my M14.

I was really set on getting a MR1 for myself in the very near future. Today I went to the gun dealer in Macadam New Brunswick and had the chance to handel A MR1 for the first time. The one thing that really jumped out at me was how skinny the outer diameter of the barrel was...It is a really small barrel. The gun itself felt nice but I am wondering how that barrel will hold up... I would assume that any rate of moderate to rapid fire would tax that barrel.

I am wondering what your take on the barrel is...do you think this will effect the accuracy...and will it limit the overall life of the barrel?

just wondering what others have experianced?

Thanks

This gun for me is a "crossover", a "black gun" I bought to hunt hunt with, with potential "home defense" SHTF capability. I wanted a .223 semi non-restricted of which there is a limited selection and I liked the action and the ergonomics. It is a thin barrel which definately will heat up in rapid fire and looks even thinner due to it's length. I believe the chamber and barrel are chrome lined but I don't know what it's potential is for barrel life with heavy use and rate of fire.

Be2man...That is the same reason I am interested in the MR1 .... it could be the best of both worlds...a .223 that I could have out in the woods as well as a gun to have some fun with on the range. I was put off by the appearence of the barrel...but reading the comments on here as well as on the web...the barrel seems to function quite well. I have NOT found any threads out there that talk about the need to have a barrel replaced...so i guess despite the way look ..they are holding up .

It doesn't heat up anywhere near as badly as you might first think...:yingyang:
