Sorry if this subject has been beaten to death, I'm sure it has.

I've heard some pretty rough reviews on the SBE3, at least earlier years. Despite that, I've always wanted and SBE3 and may pull the trigger on one this christmas.

Question is, have they resolved the POI issues I've heard so much about in 2019 to 2021?

Anyone bought a 2024 version? Can you provide some experience and feedback?

Thanks,

VP

I bought one this summer. Same BS as the one I had a few years ago, @ 16 yards 90 % above POA and about 10 inches to the left.

I bought a 20 gauge SBE 3 a couple years ago and have no issues with it. I adjusted point of impact on two for friends. It worked and was quite easy to do. I haven’t experienced any left or right but some do shoot higher than what North American shooters are use too. I pattern @ 30 yards

People who complain about the point of impact don’t understand you need to adjust the stock drop using the supplied shim kit to fit the shotgun specifically to you.

I typically adjust the stock until I am looking parallel to the rib, but shooting the SBE3 that way,the poi is still way higher that what is comfortable for me. That is the only shotgun that I have shot, where that is the case, so I why would I not just choose another shotgun? It's not like there aren't multiple shotguns that can so anything that the SBE3 does.

bWONGER what an ignorant post . What you said may be true of a very few new shotgunners, but there are countless well experienced shooters who have seen this issue with SBE 3. I have well over 55 years playing with hundreds of different shotguns including a SBE 2 that was able to be adjusted to perform as expected. Eventually I wore it out and have tried 2 different SBE 3's only to be frustrated.
Lucky you if you have a SBE 3 that fits you, however there are many of us that the shims don't even come close to resolving our issues.

In my experience if your looking flat down the rib and poi is not where you want. Adjusting the stock is a bandaid not a fix. Changing the impact point isn’t really that difficult. There are all kinds of info about this on the internet.

Mine shot high. I dropped the stock by two shims and I have a perfect 60/40 pattern at 25m
That does nothing to change the rib geometry, which is the real problem. When I aimed my SBE2 to pattern it, the pattern was around 60/40, but when I aimed the SBE3 to pattern it, the pattern was more like 90/10. Shimming the stock, should result in the gun naturally going to the same position, as if you aim the gun.

This is correct. It should shoot to poa when you aim down the rib with your eye being "just right" shims are to get that rear eye to the just right position fast and automatically.

Some folks have found success by moving the ring on the mag tube so that the barrel ring doesn't touch it
The point is a person shouldn't have to try and compensate for Benelli screwing up the rib geometry. They had it right with the SBE2, why did they mess up the SBE3?

Have you tried dropping the stock using the shims? Don’t knock it unless you try it. I had the same issue as you until I dropped my stock two letters and the pattern at 25m and 40m was night and day difference. Plus benelli recommends doing this to fix the poi issue. I don’t see how it could get any clearer than that.. I took pics of my before and after patterns I can post if people are interested in seeing it.

So if you lower the stock until the rib and bead disappears completely from your line of vision , which I would have to do to lower the poi enough, what do you use instead of the rib and beads, as a reference to pattern the gun? And while I do concentrate on the target when wingshooting, I do subconsciously use the rib as a reference to adjust lead. I have been shooting clays for over 30 years, and have wingshot for over 50, and the SBE3 is the only shotgun I have used, where looking parallel to to the rib, doesn't produce the point of impact that I desire.

How did you manage to wear out an SBE2 ?

My SBE3 is 3 years or so old. I did use a shim to raise the POI. I shot a few rounds of trap to be sure the POI worked for me. Have shot lots of waterfowl since and it works like a charm.
I recall that the SBE2 was noted for the "Benelli click" so I made sure to get a SBE3 and have had no problems at all.

I find myself shooting Browning or Winchester semi autos for waterfowl, because they fit me best. No matter how I adjust a Benelli, or Beretta with the shims, I just don't shoot them as well.
For once being average works great. Berettas off the shelf for me great. However I can adjust to most guns if they shoot flat
