Beretta 686 Siver Pigeon 1 Sporting

As an update, as I feel the purpose of message boards is to help the future people that read it, so I shot 2 686 SP1 Sporting today. 1 round of skeet each. I did not shoot them well, lol (15-16). But I don't think its the guns fault. Takes some time to adjust to a different firearm me thinks. I shot a 20 and 23 with my Franchi O/U.

Both of the SP1s were FAR above the quality of the other ones that I have seen. The fit finish and even wood (on one of them) was what I would considerer EL(EELL?)! If the ones that I saw at the store were like these, I would likely own one by now.

Both of the owners said they purchased 2 years ago. So, it looks like the quality had dropped a lot very quickly. There is a chance that the ones I looked at new were the remnants or a large shipment that had already been picked through, but QC is QC, somehow they got out of the factory!!

Anyways, talked to a few people about Rizzini, no one has heard of them, much less shot/owned. They do seem to have a loyal following though, that's for sure. I am a tad concerned about not being able to shoot/shoulder the gun first, and then what to do if warranty concerns and depreciation if I find its not for me and have to sell.

Going to clean my shotgun to make sure its ready for another 100-125 rounds tomorrow :).

I have a 28g rizzini great gun and zero problems . at least 5000rds . know of 2 other 20g .you cant go wrong with one . have had both b guns .browning holds resale value .

I have one with 32 inch barrels and use it for skeet and sporting clays . I have had it for 2 years and have fired about 1000 shells through it . I did have the odd time that the second shot did not go off , so what I do that I found that works is
I work the safety back and forth and have not had any more second shots not going off . It has the new optima HP chokes and with the 32 in barrels swings very nice . The gun fits me very right off the shelf as well .

Hey All,

Just to put some closure to this thread, I have decided to keep shooting my Franchi. After looking at a lot of guns up to 4k, it has similar build quality and better fit and finish.

The Brownings were by far the nicest of the guns that I looked at (IMO), but I could not justify the money for something that, as far as I can see, is no appreciable step up from my Franchi.

I guess I will shoot it until it stops!!

Thanks for the feedback,
C

Franchi makes a great gun.... They are made in the same factory as Benelli as I understand it . I own a franchi I-12 and a Beretta 686sp1 both shoot great and serve their purpose well. No shame in sticking with the franchi !

Franchi are a very good gun and excellent value for the prices charged. I have had the autos and O/Us and all shot well (certainly above my ability) with no problems.

I thought the problem with a Franchi is that they are light? Im looking into a sporting model O/U for skeet, probably will buy used. Im leaning towards a browning sporting or xs but may consider a beretta. Browning has a serious following in my club with a handful of kolars.

I use a 12ga 686 SP 1 Sporting with 28in tubes for Skeet. I had bought that four years ago. The wood, as with most 686 is very plain. However, there is no visible discrepancy on my specimen as far as fit and finish are concerned. No issues so far.

The finish quality of Rizzini guns are superior in comparison. You may also wish to inspect Caesar Guerini sporting models .....

My 682 would set the second trigger about 60% of the time , unmodified, shooting the 410. I took it to coles gunsmithing in Harpswell maine, and for 125 bucks, they did the job and tested it while I waited. I have put maybe 2500 rounds of 410 through it, zero issues.

Cole's is the best on Beretta.
