Hey just wondering if you guys could give me some reviews on this gun, I did a search which didn't turn up what I was looking for. What do you guys think of it? I'm quite a fan of Beretta being Italian and all and they're going for a decent price. So is it a good buy or should I just go with a tried and true Glock 17 or 22?

Hey Steve,
I picked one up and think it's great. The DAO was a bit to get used to but is really nice to shoot and the .40 cal is not intimidating at all. Two thumbs up.

Ya I've shot the 92 a bunch before, but have not shot the 96. The first handgun I ever shot was a real Isreali DE in .50AE so I'm not too initmidated by large calibers lol

I'm just wondering how this gun is for reliability, accuracy, ease of use, availability of parts, etc...

It's a great gun, the DAO makes it very safe. You can probably re-sell it for the same price.

Depends how much you plan to shoot it. The price is great on those right now if you want a fun .40 for a bit of shooting. If you plan to get into high round counts, then it's not a good idea in my experience. My Dept. used to issue the 96D and Centurion, had one member break two locking blocks on two separate Centurion's in less than 3,000 rounds each just by (gasp:eek: ) shooting them! Mine broke at just under 12,000. In comparison, my Glock 22 went 32,000 rounds before major failure (and that's a surprise). The 96D is nice to shoot if you like a long, smooth, consistant trigger. And you can't beat the price for a .40 that they go for. I'm not sure where you're looking, but Police Ordnance has the gun and accessories (holster, mag pouch, and belt) for a good deal right now.

Ya that's where I was looking because I was looking for a cheap Glock and saw that the Centurion was a good price for all you get. I'm a casual shooter, when I'm not busy with school I make it out to the range only a couple times or once a week. As a starving student who is also addicted to cars I can't spend too much on guns :(

Incredibly reliable pistol. 8000 plus rounds, 3 failures, none due to the gun.
That being said, there has been some issue that have come up on the internet re the locking block.
It would not deter me from buying one for recreational shooting.

Locking blocks are not that expensive and are easy to replace. I wouldn't worry about at all. I'd rather replace a locking block than buy a whole barrel if locking lugs get busted.

The trigger on a 96D will be different than on a FS model (DA/SA): D is DAO.

Ya I read that the trigger is long but really smooth. I shoot a lot of Glocks so I'm used to long/heavy triggers.

I'm just waiting for an e-mail back from PO to get prices on the G17/22 to see which one is more appealing to me. Most likely I'll be going with the Beretta.
