Berger Bullets on Game(Pics up on last post)

I shot a moose at fairly close range (90 - 100 yards) with 210 grain Bergers (the ones they made before they had both target and hunting lines, so the classic target bullet they show in their videos) from a 30-06. The bullet performed exactly as advertised and I'm fine using them again.

Honestly, powdergun posted that the doe died forty yards from where she was shot, and did not report needing a second shot, or having extreme bloodshot meat or anything (compared to other deer shot at close range with 7mm mag), so I'm wondering what the problem is...

Maybe if he wants his deer to flinch on the shot, he could scream or something, just as he pulls the trigger :)

This is a 6.5mm 140 gr Barnes XLC that was recovered from a young bull moose shot at 33 yards. The bullet entered the chest from frontal aspect, and was recovered under the hide on the rear quarter. Still weighs 140 gr.

Berger just sent me their catalog of bullet selections and it may answer some questions. In the hunting bullet section it says this: The Jacket on these bullets are standard thickness. (Their tactical & target bullets have "thick" J4 jackets) These bullets penetrate the first 2 - 5 inches of tissue and bone. Once inside the vitals it will shed 40% to 90% of its mass as fragments. This energy dump causes massive hydrostatic shock producing tremendous internal tissue damage. So, Berger designs their hunting bullets to Fragment

Well seeing as how you asked, there is one bullet for sure that does everything very well and it's been around a long time................does the term Nosler Partition ring a bell? My son and I have also had great success and zero failures with Nosler accubonds, however they will fragment at high velocity and point blank impact ranges. They do however seem to still give decent penetration before fragmenting and we have never lost or even had to follow an animal shot with either of these bullets.
I have always gotten good to excellent accuracy from Parts and usually excellent accuracy with ABs, with only a couple exceptions. My 375 H&H (the TRUE KING) loves 270 gn TSXs which has no down side and my 340 Wby does NOT like 225 ABs.
I use ABs or Parts in virtually all my hunting rifles from 25 cal to 35 cal.............that way I never have to worry or wonder what might happen, I already know......dead critter !!

I have to concur with Doug on Bullet choice. Once I sectioned a Berger VLD "hunting" bullet, I decided never to shoot them at a game animal.

I have shot about 125 head of game with the Nosler Partition. Of that number, I have recovered about 30, the rest made exit.
These shots have varied from 15 feet to 500+ yards, and I have not had to track any animal shot with a NP more than 75 yards or so.

I do use the AB in some applications, and have now shot 5 head of game with the Barnes TTSX. [all dead within 15 feet, but no recovered bullet yet]

The 180 NP again proved itself this winter....an Elk at 275 yards, 1 shot, dead right there. What more could one ask for?

Regards, Dave.
