Bersa Firearms

Looks like the front sight on the .22 is held on by a ring, so you can remove the sight to allow the slide to come off when stripping.

The old Beretta 70 series had a slot on the front of slide for the front sight to slide through for same purpose.

ETA, best case from now, 6 weeks.
I'm adding two weeks to that for my own expectations.
So mid to late April.

Price not fixed till guns ship to Canada, but will be under $500 for the 9/40 and high $2XX for the .22.

The nickel finish is very, very atttractive but I would always go for flat black. I once read that old flintlock dueling pistols, at least those made by the English, were made with no shiny surfaces. It seems the eye is drawn to shiny objects and one instinctively aims to that point.

Actually, they are both Matte. Bersa says that none of their products contain a reflective surface.

Borrowed from a wiki

This handgun is an evolution of the Model 90, the first full size 9mm Luger pistol made by the Argentine company and introduced in 1989. In 1994, when the entire Bersa pistol production line was renamed "Thunder", the Model 90 was modified with better functionalities and placement of the fire control group, improved sights, better ergonomics, lighter weight and increased magazine capacity. It then became the full size offering of the Thunder model range.

Design

The Thunder 9 shares little in common with the other handguns in the company's product line. While the smaller Thunders are a blow-back pistols similar to the Walther PPK, the Thunder 9 is a full-size, short-recoil handgun to handle the greater pressure of the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. The gun bears some resemblance to the Walther P88 pistol.

The slide and barrel are high strength steel and the frame is aluminum alloy. Available finishes are black matte, nickel, and a two-tone with a nickel finished slide and satin black frame. All the available finishing styles are non-reflective. The polymer grips are integrated "wraparound" style. The trigger is double-action for the first shot, single-action thereafter. The magazine is double stack and the slide remains open after the last round is fired. The magazine release button can be reversed for left-handed shooters and it has a "round in the chamber" indicator. It is one of the easiest, if not the easiest, semi-automatic handgun to field strip for cleaning.

The pistol features ambidextrous safety, a decocker activated by the safety lever, emphasized sights, combat trigger guard, an integrated accessory mounting groove in the frame (added after the year 2000), firing pin block; the pistol will not fire unless the trigger is squeezed all the way back protecting from accidental falling.

Shooting Competitions

Bersa Thunder full size pistols have won several IPSC matches and are always very competitive either with the official Team Bersa or in the hands of private shooters.

Here is what Bersa says about the Thunder 22-6. My translation from the spanish may be slightly off.

THUNDER 22. Application designed specifically for sport and shooting accuracy, the Thunder 22 / 6 is the exponent of a gun shooting sports and recreation. These weapons have a superlative durability and precision thanks to its balanced design, moderate recoil and the combination of a long barrel and scope of vision that allows excellent groupings. Its barrel length of 150 mm allows versatility when choosing .22 caliber ammunition from ammunition to high standard and hyper speed, Thunder 22 / 6 are highly reliable forever.

• Caliber: .22 LR
• Operation: Semiautomatic
• Total length: 226 mm
• Height: 124 mm
• Width: 33 mm
• Barrel length: 150 mm
• Weight: 560 grs.
• Magazine: 10 cartridges
• Long line of sight: 180 mm
• Striped barrel: 6 grooves, 250 mm pitch right
• Satin finish only peacock
• Action: Double and single with external hammer

Cutting the 6" barrel down on this .22 will be a bit more complicated. The front sight is held on by the retaining ring. It's removed to allow the slide to be removed during fieldstripping.

So if you cut it, you'll have to leave a bit to be threaded for the sight and ring or, mount the front sight on the slide where it should have been in the first place.
