So I want to pick up a new plinker and am trying to decide which of the 1911 style to go for. The 2 most popular look to be the GSG 1911-22 and the S&W 22A.

Anyone used either or have any thoughts.

By the way - if money was no object I would pick up a Kimber Rimfire Super in a heartbeat:D

The 22a popular? I've never noticed that on this board -although I personally think it's a great pistol. My GF has one and I find it fits my hand better than any other 22 I've tried so far. Doesn't much look like a 1911 though.

If you're after function though, the Ruger 22/45 is another candidate worth considering. I prefer the 22a over all the others, but the Ruger seems to get the nod in terms of reliability.

I had one, and I will not own another one. It was extremely fussy as to which ammunition that it would cycle, and even then, it had to be kept very clean, and freshly lubed. When all was just right, it worked flawlessly, and was quite accurate, but at times, it was quite frustrating.

I'd take the GSG 1911 over the Kimber. Better value for the money, the GSG1911 will do anything the Kimber will, and maybe even better.

Why not get the real deal?

SIG has a 1911 in the same price range as the gsg and from what i understand it is a GSG with different engraving, so if you want one that says sig on it instead you have your choice!

Man that SIG is a nice looking tool - who is best to shop with for SIG in Canada?

You are right about it looking just like the GSG but with more of a matte finish maybe?

hi
i have both the s&w 22a and the gsg 1911,

got the gsg to do tactical rimbine because or the extra safeties. like it for the weight ,ease of take down, and have heard of excellent costumer support.this gun is a 90% + take on the 1911, price range 375-450 with one mag. mags 30+
on the flip side, accuracy is determined by the top slide, and barrel bushing . mine came with a .060 clearance ( people on the 1911 boards suggest .003 clearance ) on the barrel bushing and a loose slide, paper plate size groupes at 15 yrds. don't put the slide spring in the wrong way
holster .... blackhawk serpa 410503bk

got the 22a as my first pistol so infer a slight bias. like the weight, ease of take down and accuracy , <4" groups at 25 yards. comes with full length rail mount, 2 mags and soft rubber gripes . prices 299-350, extra mags 40$, laminate target grips 75$.
flip side spring is on a new gun is too stiff for bulk ammo, works great for hv ammo, left mine in the lockup with the slide back for a couple day , basically cured the problem
