So it seems like the next in line for me is a 1911. I currently have a Glock 17 and a GSG1911 but I'd like to go for a real 1911 in .45.

What are your recommendations? Colt, S&W, Kimber, Springfield, Sig....?

Money is no object....(within reason)

I was thinking Colt....

trp x2... 1911's can go anywhere from $350 to $10,000. So start out with a price point. Nighthawk, Wilson combat are probably two of the top semi-production 1911's in my opinion. Les baer, Ed Brown are top o' the line as well

I was thinking in the $1000 and change price point...$1500?

I'm still learning but in given time I'd like to get my black badge and go for IPSC so I was looking for something that would be well suited for that.

Would the TRP fit that description?

I am quite happy with my 2 STI's. One is a 6" TargetMaster 45acp and the other is a 5" Trojan 45acp. 20,000 rounds between them and no issues yet.

The best Springfield 1911 would be the Professional, as built by their custom shop for the FBI. Wolverine list them for $3,755 and delivery is long, though.

Of the mainstream mass-produced guns, Colt would be my first choice and Springfield second. Dan Wesson are another nice choice that sort of bridges the gap between them and semi-custom guns like Wilson, Ed Brown, etc.

Dlask's base 1911 starts at $1250 and is definitely worth looking at if you want to go the custom route.

To me its like "hey what's the best car?" Gotta have at least some idea of what you want for features, capacity, barrel length, finish etc...

factory built :
Taurus PT1911. great sturdy gun, hand fitted, fun, good looks, very good price (1000$ tax in), lifetime warranty. "Custom" features straight out the box. i don't think you can beat that, honestly.
