Best 1911 ?

Had my hands on and fondled my first Nighthawk Custom about a month ago. It makes some high end 1911's seem Norincoish....If money was no object, the ability to customize and design your own 1911, with the fit and finish that Nighthawk offers, makes Nighthawk Custom handsdown the best 1911....IMO

I think the best 1911 is a custom one. Make it exactly the way YOU want. It is like asking what is the best shoe? Everyone fits a bit differently. Right now, my best 1911 is a Norc that I had customized and I bet it out performs most 2000.00 1911's that are just out of the box. The Norc gives you the opportunity to make your custom gun for well under that 1500.00 mark for most mid range 1911s.

My norc has lots of Wilson parts, a fantastic trigger, and well...look at it....you either are slightly aroused, or maybe your equipment ain't working right. All for well under that 1500.00 for a less exciting gun :)

My new norc made my Smith and Wesson 1911, Kimber, and Springfield seem Norincoish

Thanks for all the great options!

I think I've just opened a can of worms for myself...didn't realize that a nice 1911 would run $3000 on average.

I have a tendency of being extreme with my hobbies (cars, watches, home theater) so I can see how this 1911 thing is going to cost me some good money....

What are some of the real advantages and benefits between the custom stuff like Wilson, Nighthawk etc versus the quality factory stuff like Colt etc?

Any IPSC shooters here that can give me info on what to look for considering I'd like to get into IPSC at some point?

Threads like this one never end. "Best" is always subjective. Get the one you like - whichever one is best for your wants and/or needs.

Unfortuantely, at this time 1911s are not popular in IPSC due to a capacity limitation.

2011s from STI are the most popular and prevalent 1911-ish guns in IPSC, with 40 caliber being the most popular caliber.
You can have a look at STI's line of hand fitted double-stacked-1911s (2011s) here: http://www.stiguns.com/guns/guns.php

Canadian Retail Pricing on them is located here: http://www.freedomventures.ca/documents/PricingR.pdf

I'm looking for a Springfield Loaded combat, but seems like no one has stock on it.
I've checked with retailers, distributors, and I even contacted Springfield...

I might end up going for a Kimber TLE instead.

If it doesn't say Sig Sauer on the slide, it isn't a real pistol!*

*excluding all military contract m1911's, m1911A1's.

Yes because military contract built 1911's are just top notch.
And Sig? What does Max M shoot for a competition pistol in open?
A 2011 with Sig on the slide LOL.
