Best .22 pistol out there?

A stainless Ruger Mark IV target with a 5.5" barrel with a few Volquartsen upgrades...accurizing kit and competition bolt (or at least a bolt tune up kit). Maybe get some grippier G10 grips, a handful or magazines and run good CCI ammo (plated mini-mags are ideal IMO) and you are golden!!! Should give you both great reliability/durability and accuracy...and fun!!!

I've said it before, and will say it again... High Standard; best factory triggers ever, and consistently accurate year after year.

Might be easier to start a "worst .22lr pistol out there?" thread and then just avoid the lemons.... as long as they run reliably and shoot decently I enjoy shooting all of them!

Good answer.

That said, the ISSC "Omni"....anyone have experience with these? They're advertised with an "Optimized aluminum slide uses any .22 LR ammunition that ensures proper cycling without use of HV ammunition", but I'm skeptical.

That would be #1 on the worst list...lol

there's a Pardini on EE for sale. Asking price is $2600.00 though. Have you thought about revolvers? My 1955 S&W K22 Masterpiece is my favourite handgun to shoot. Shoots any ammo in a 3" circle at 25 yds. Good used ones go for around $800 now.

I'd be lying if I said cost was not a factor. Hence the search for a .22.

I had a Glock 17 back in the day, but (for me) it was just too expensive to shoot on a regular basis, so I got rid of it.

If money was no object, I'd get a CZ 75. When I first got my PAL and joined a club (again, back in the day), my instructor had one and let me shoot it. Loved it. Just felt right. But, again, more than I wanted to spend.

Anyway, blah blah blah....the way things are in the world these days, I'm back in the market. Looking for something affordable to buy, and affordable to shoot.

I have owned a half dozen rimfire pistols and have shot dozens more and couldn’t be happier with my Ruger 22/45 Mark III and Single six. If I would have bought them ten years ago it would have saved me the journey although it was fun getting there. Both are very reliable and shoot as well as anything else I have used. Also parts are easily available if needed.

I have a MK III 22/45 with the bull barrel. I've added both Volquartsen and Tandemkross upgrades over the years plus G10 Lok Grips and recently added a Vortex Venom red dot for giggles and love it!

Thanks guys for all the replies. Super helpful. And now that I figured out how to use the search function, I've done a lot more research. Only one I can't find that much info about is the CZ Kadet...not even on the YouTubes. Most vids are about the conversion kit.

I realize that it's up there in price when compared with GSGs and even the Glock, but I loved a CZ 75 Shadow 2 when I had the opportunity to shoot it years ago, so thinking the Kadet might be the answer?

My buddy picked up a used one a couple weeks ago and loves it. I shot it as well, and it certainly feels like a CZ and shoots quite well. I think if you are going to shoot a CZ 9mm competitively, it would absolutely be the best choice for a practice gun.

I am sticking with my High Standards for accuracy though.

Cheap pot-metal guns like GSG or SIG branded .22 are limited in accuracy (depending on how one defines it). The best trainers must be more accurate than you are, that way practices makes you strive to reach the potential of the gun. If a gun has limited accuracy, you will only ever shoot as good as the gun with practice. At 25 yards with a gsg from a rest, I expect 4" groups (maybe even bigger) with with my two and my buddies two High Standards, I expect and often produce 2" or less groups at 25 yards. I have not tried the cadet from a rest, but based on free-hand, I expect pretty good accuracy from a rest. Give me accuracy over cool.

Ruger .22-45 I find to be badly balanced due to their light frames, and the triggers are mediocre out of the box.

If you attach an AR linear compensator to the threaded barrel, it adjusts the balance nicely. Dlask makes them.

Pretty sure these Taurus TX22's were getting good reviews, looks pretty nice and priced well. It would be good to inquire with IRG about extra magazines and how many come with the gun....

Edit, looks like my memory from a while back might have been hype....Just watching some reviews, looks like there are some known issues with feeding.... stay tuned.... :)

Watched a few more different reviews and it looks like it's a fairly reliable and accurate pistol, more then one Tauras "avoider" was impressed.

If I didn't have "more then enough" .22lr pistols I'd be tempted to drop $450 Cdn on one.

The trigger and ergonomics are comparable to PPQ's and VP9's.... which are both quite nice. One guy had issues with one the magazines causing missfeeds but a basic tune up/ cleaning of the magazine solved that issue. Some other people had some issues feeding second round out of a 16 round loaded mag but since they would be neutered to 10 here that shouldn't be an issue.

Has anyone tried one?

I picked up a used Grand Power CP 22 off the EE a few years back and it's one of my favorite .22lr pistols, It seems to shoot everything reliably which is a huge deal with .22lr pistols in my experience.

I have one and haven't had any issues with it. I only have about 300 through it, though. I like it.
