Ok its like this.... I have a recently acquired Diemaco SA15.7 and I fricken love it but there are some days I don't feel like paying $.50/rd to shoot it. I have done some research and there seems to be a few companies that offer BCG conversion kits and I suppose I could also get a dedicated upper receiver in .22lr.

Bearing in mind my range only goes out to 25M and I will only use it for casual plinking what do you guys recommend?

Thanks

I suggest a dedicated upper. I had a conversion that replaced the BCG and it was unreliable unless it was really clean, and a 223 barrel has way too tight of twist for 22LR.

I have had the Chiappa for over a year now, and with thousand if mixed rounds through it, it eats everything. For less than $400, you can't beat it. This is it on the bottom gun.

I use the cmmg bolt conversion. Came with 3 25-round mags. Simple BCG swap. I've put about 1000 rounds through it and runs reliably with assorted 22lr ammo. Bought my kit from Arms East. It was around $325 for the kit.

Got mine at Questar I think- some kind of promotion was on at the time

I bought a used Chiappa Upper on the EE for $260. So far it has been reliable and pretty darn accurate. The only downside is the ten round mags (because they make a pistol version). By the way, does anyone know if Blackdog mags will work?

I was toying with getting one but picked up a 15-22 for a good deal. I prefer to have 2 guns instead of one.

I have the DPMS upper - Epps have them in stock. More accurate than me with decent ammo and feeds anything I've put through it no problems. Black Dog mags work just fine.

Comes with a free float hand guard and bull barrel. Only problem is once you have one you start looking at new lowers so you don't have to swap the uppers over all the time..... :)

Hope this helps.

I have the CMMG arc kit as well. I've also heard that the twist in a regular AR barrel is too tight, but I'm not noticing any problems shooting out of a MR556 upper so I'd recommend it.

I've got the ccmg bolt conversation and I love it probably close to 10k rounds through it,best advice I can give is buy one of the stainless steel.ones since they are an absolute breeze to clean! Literally just wipe it off with a dry rag and it's clean I highly recommend it.

Another vote for the CMMG bolt conversion kit.

Mine works great. Takes about ten seconds to switch from one caliber to the other.

Very rarely jams.
