Best .22LR for 11 and 12 year old...Tips and help please

best .22

Well in my oppinion i think you should take into account how big your boys are , and think about this purchase as a long term thing . maybe think about 10 years from now , could you buy them rifles that will fit them when they get older ? if you can , then maybe that's what you should be using to make your decision . now you said that these are there first rifles , so i would stay away from semi-auto's , you don't want them to have a gun that shoots every time they press the trigger , i think it's better to have first firearms that must be manually recycled , it's safer .maybe you should think about getting them one bolt action and one lever action . if you check at your localgun shows for 2 used rifles in good shape -who knows ? you may pick up a Henry lever or even a Winchester 9422 at a good price . i think they should learn to shoot with open sights first before getting scopes . most shows will have inexpensive bolt actions ( Cooey , Lakefields ,Mossberg's ) take the boys with you see how well the different models fit them . remember it's not Safety first --- it's SAFETY ALWAYS . good luckk Joe

Wow! this thread jumped all the way from 10-08-2005 to 03-17-2007 in one post!

Yeah so I guess the thanksgiving weekend report is a little overdue now...

...as for other interesed parties, I've handeled the mini-bolt I'd say it is too small for a 11 year old. probably better for 7-10 years (it's really tiny) the sights however are excellent. (fire sights or something).

this is the tread that never ends....:D

I would throw in for a cheap cooey bolt...how many people on here started with those? Simple, solid, readily available, reliable, canadian, rugged...Start them off with something cheap, then spend more money when you want to upgrade to something heartier than a .22 (I suspect they'll want more backbone fairly soon...)
