So, I'm looking to scratch the wild west itch again, which means I need a new lever action rifle. However, because I'm currently poor it has to be in 22 LR, and I'm only getting one gun. I want something that's easy to strip for cleaning, with a decent finish and good accuracy. I don't want something cheaply made. What all are your suggestions?

Price under 2k. Yes I'm poor, but I'm willing to sell current guns to help purchase this one. I'm willing to go higher with the initial cost, just wanting to limit future costs hence the caliber.

I've never considered the budget of 2k and under being 'poor'.... however...

Any Henry lever is basically a go to for a reliable working tool. Beyond there... only get more expensive and ornate. Browning BL 22.. 7-800?

I knew that would throw people off, which is why I didn't list the budget initially. I'll need to sell guns to get this one as I don't have much money at present. More "cash poor" than "poor". Home renos et al...

Probably the 39a a older one if you can find one. All steel and super easy to clean since it comes apart with a large screw on the side.

My Dad was able to find a NIB one at a gun store a little while back for $1200 I think.

BL-22 or the Henry H001/ or T model for sure. I own both and enjoy them quite a bit. Depends what you want out of them mostly though.

BL-22's are beautifully made, have a rather short lever throw and run like butter. Lot of complaints about disassembly but honestly it's not that bad as long as you know what you're doing. Just keep needlenose pliars/tweezers on hand for the one or two finnicky parts.

The Henry H001 aren't as nice externally with the alloy receiver. I have the heavy barrel version (H001T) But they're smooth and shoot wonderfully. Has a more traditional lever throw as if you were running a full size cartridge though. The sights are decent, and you can flip over the rear notch from a fine to a course notch to your preference, and you can adjust for elevation without tools. I shoot long distances and the rear sight can be elevated much higher than the flip sight that the BL-22's have normally.

Spend some time checking them out on youtube and see what you like most!

The Marlin 39a has a curved pistol grip with a 24 inch barrel.

The 39 M is the "Mountie" version with a 20" barrel and a straight grip.

Advertise in the EE. They are still available; Look for an older one without the cross bolt safety.

The Browning BL 22 is very well made and not difficult to clean, however like the Browning BLR you should not disassemble it because it can be difficult to put back together.

If you're willing to spend money get a Winchester 9422. I have all the brownings marlins Winchesters and Henry's. Winchester is my favorite marlins second browning third and the rest after that

Another vote for the 9422, you should be able to find a mint one for under 2000.00
Smother and better handling then the Marlin in my hands.
