Best 22lr lever gun?

If you’re budget is $2k you are not limited to only a .22. Many other options exist right up to 45-70’s just as an fyi. Heck you could get a brand new Winchester 92 or 94 for under $2k.

I have a Henry H001 .22 which is pretty fun and works flawlessly. The Winchester 9422 is likely the best overall quality/looks wise.

I have the Henry with the 16 inch barrel and the big loop
It’s a fantastic shooting lever gun, it’s light and carrys and points nice
Best of all it’s the most accurate with the cheap Remington golden bullets

Browning bl22, the irons on them are nice and fine, finish is very nice, short throw lever. Only downside is the trigger is heavy

On the flip side, BL- 22's LOP is short and current models have a gloss finish.

Henry fits the bill. Small Game rifle or carbine come with Skinner sights and octagon barrels.

Then, there is Rossi and Chiappa offerings. Both the cheapest options.

The BL22 I owned had fantastic fit and finish with a Nickel receiver.
Very nice to look at but the check weld was very high (for me). The trigger was heavy and while the throw was short and fast I didn't like the one piece action.
I've had my Henry 16.5" large loop for several years now and it's been great all around.....

Are there any side gate loading 22s or are they all tube from the front like the Henry?

Not to my knowledge or imagination, side loading often involves using the tip of your finger to get the last shell fully in... Pretty hard to due with such a small cartridge.
It's just not practical to even attempt a side loading gate .22lr.

I bet it would be pretty easy to damage the small bullets as well as they get pushed in on an angle and deflect off the loading gate.

Still pretty cool that they were made!

I have had several but held onto a Marlin 39m in the end.

Marlin 39m well built reliable easy to clean. Price has skyrocketed, parts are hard to find. I have an 1894c and the 39m has the same cycling characteristics so feels like the same gun minus a few lbs.

Bl-22 found it to be solid and well buit and very reliable. It can be cycled by literally opening and closing your hand which was cool but then developed some arthritis in my wrist and after a time struggled to cycle it. I would say its on par with the marlin though.

Henry H001 everything worked great and well built but didn’t like the painted finish on the receiver. Tried out a Golden Boy and it works just as well with a brass receiver which to me was a really lovely rifle.

Win9422 borrowed one for a while to me it felt the most solid and well built. Didn’t really feel like I was holding a rimfire. It worked just as well as the others and was very satisfying to load and shoot.

There are a few others but can’t personally comment on them. If I were getting one now I would probably go with the Henry since I am always afraid of things breaking and lever guns do if you shoot them a lot. Henry parts are easy to find. I do cowboy action shooting so may shoot more than most people and be a bit rougher.

Always wanted to get my hands on a Ruger 96

Get the Henry Canadian trucker edition, it does everything you want to do, and has the added feature of a built in wokester detector, just pulling it out usually melts a few snowflakes.

Does it come threaded with a "Jake Brake"? Be pretty funny to make a Canada Goose honking sound with every shot!

I have a fair bit of experience with working on Henry's, BL22's, 39's and 9422's. The Henry's are cheaply built, no doubt about it, but boy do they work!
The other three are all beautifully built, with 9422's getting my vote as best of class.
That 1866 sounds interesting.

Win 9422 & BL-22 are my preferred units. The Marlin 39a I had shot well but the quality of fit & finish could've been better. The Ruger 96 I had was kinda fun to play with but accuracy & build quality needed attention fer sure.
