BEST 22Lr target gun

Another vote for the Walther GSP, if you want a repeater. The top notch accuracy and value vote would go to a Vostok Toz-35. It's designed for the Olympic 50m pistol event. They seem to be selling fairly cheap out West.

I had the opportunity to shoot a GSP this last weekend and it was very nice. Someday I will get one.

I've posted this before in other threads....but I'll say again anyway.

I have a Hammerli X-Esse Sport 6", these are really accurate out of the box and the sport model also comes with an adjustable trigger down to 2.2 pounds. The cost of the sport is up there but it eliminated the need for a trigger job that would be nessecary for me on another gun like a ruger or something. Absolutely nothing wrong with a Ruger though....very good guns.

The ergo grips on the hammerli are adjustable also and very comfortable. The front sight is also adjustable width wise.

Never had a FTF or FTE, it'll throw any ammo I feed it down range without a hiccup.

The muzzle is a little light, the Sig Trailside comes with weights to add on to make it a little heavier out front, I milled out a piece of stainless and made my own weight.

Also the mags are plastic, hasn't been an issue but they are plastic. Easy to load though, the thumb doesn't get sore.

I also liked the look of the Hammerli, it is more of a standard looking gun as opposed to a space gun....just my opinion.

what's the best group achieved by a Ruger Mark III 5 1/2 inch bull barrel? I just got mine, still haven't got the chance to take it to the range yet... don't they make good target pistols?

I have an Xesse Long with the ergo grips purchased separately. Still has a great trigger - very light, I'm used to it, haven't tried the Sport so I don't have a comparison.

I wouldn't mind one of those custom weights, Buddy Holly, what would you charge to make me up a set?:)

I also have a Ruger Mark II with a bull barrel in stainless. It will pretty much group as well as you can hold it steady. Out of the box, I'd say the Hammerli is more accurate than the Ruger, but it is a great pistol and well built to last. The mags are a bit of a pain to load, I'm looking at Cliploader that loads them up in about 3 seconds for $30.

Just a note, The Kimber 22 Target is "guaranteed" to shoot a 1.5 inch group at 25 yards.

Thats what I am getting

Don't know, but the best way to find out how well your MK3 shoots is to put it in a rest. The brand of rest I've seen is the Ransom manufacture. You remove your grips and clamp the gun into this vice that's mounted on a flat frame. The frame is bolted down on a solid block. The vice can rotate backwards to absorb recoil, and there is a forward stop point to bring it back consistently to the same point of aim. Place your target out front, usually at least 25 yards, 50 if you're really serious, and fire away. This will give you an idea of the best possible group your gun is capable of with the ammunition you're testing. I've seen a Walther GSP group 1.125" outside to outside diameter, meaning all 10 shots placed completely inside a 1.125" circle, at 25 meters. He only tested 3 or 4 types of match grade ammunition, the other types performed quite a bit worse. The cat's @ss is to get a sub 2" group at 50 meters.

fed007,

That's a pretty decent group. Did Kimber specify their definition of 1.5" group? I've heard salesmen, not from Kimber, clarify that this means 1.5" square, after the buyer inquired further. This is not as good as center to center diameter, the nominal assumed grouping reference, or better yet outside to outside diameter.

What is the Most accurate target hand gun, in the 22lr caliber? For the best price?

ruger mark 2 & 3.

hammerli.

thanks

The question was "what is the most accurate target hand gun, in the 22 lr caliber, for the best price?"

I've shot the rugers, high standards, Barettas, etc... and many of them shoot well, but if you were to find a used Walther GSP, Hamerli or Pardini, you would be getting the Best at a resonably good cost (worth every penny). I've got a 20+ year old Walther GSP that I bought a few years back for $1,000 and in the right hands (I'm not saying I'm a pro) will kick any of the "non-pro" models. The Walthers, Hamerlis and Pardinis are totally modular, fully adjustable, and extremely well balanced, which means the only issue you will have with them (normally) is your ability. And yes, some brands come with a 1.5" or smaller guarantee, but like I hinted already, that means crap unless you can shoot like a pro. I've got a friend who has a bunch of Les Baers (.45 and 38 super), which are guaranteed to shoot 1.5" at 50 yards (which he can do...at 20 yards), but unless your good, it only means that you've got an accurate pistol that you can't shoot well.

Then there's the ammo...

Spend the few extra bucks and get pro grade used... you won't regret it (usually). Cheers.

Best .22 for the best price????
I really like my Beretta 76S. Comfortable to shoot and more accurate than I am :p .
My Vostok MC2-3 is also a nice one for the $. Uber light trigger on her  . Really got to pay attention to what you're doing.

QUOTE]

WWW when i first made mine it was wayyy too heavy so back to the mill I went and cut it down about half. It looks ok but it is no show piece, it also took me a while to get the ID right so when I installed it the screw that expanded the existing weight also expanded to hold the add on weight. Needed alonger screw of course. The weight I built just slips over the existing weight, tolerances had to be close.

Frankly I don't want to go through that again...:) And I wouldn't have time anyway.
