best .270 moose round

I would not recommend a 270 for hunting moose, not enough shock power. It is a good deer round but too light for moose. You need a 30 cal round that is at least 180 grains, 200 grain is better.

My next door neighbour and another good friend of mine, both whacked their moose with 270s again this year, both with a single shot each! :D

I wait till hes drinking water and shoot him in the nutz, that way he gulps up 40 gallons and drowns himself in the aftershock ;) :D

and for the record i no longer own any magnum rifles 1 left in the house is my 17 year olds 270wsm as of next hunting season I will be shooting a 308 for everything I hunt ;)

Beware of the one gun man!!!!

I'm doing the same thing. 308 for all!!!!!!

270 is more then enuf my brother took his first elk a Roosevelt with a 270 and at a good distance too!!
I've taken my share of animal with a 270 and with one shot :)

Sorry I disagree a 130 grain round on moose is foolish, you risk wounding the animal and having it go into deep water or marsh etc. Moose are very large animals, at least here in BC they are.
I hear they're trying to ban moose body armour for this very reason.:D

We really like the chain saw... I cleaned this one really well before the hunt with hot water and soap and rinsed it well... then dried it in the sun... I use a little Mazolla oil to lube it before cutting into the moose. After the hunt I clean it real well again and remove all the lube as it gets a bit gummy in a year... I just use this on moose.

Nice picture of you and your Moose. We always try to bring the animal in whole after gutting. It is much cleaner that way.

With regard to the chain oil, instead of using a cooking oil, use mineral oil which you an buy at a pharmacy. Unscented baby oil would work. It doesn't polymerize and get sticky. I have a small Pulan saw that I pack for this purpose. The oil is a bit thin and seems to leak out into the case when stored. Just add the oil before using it.

Just a guess but my brother has probably taken 30 moose with his .270 . He uses 150's . Calves to bulls , point blank to 300 yards . No problem . Maybe the moose he has shot didn't read the ballistics tables therefore didn't realize that the bullet that just hit them in the chest wasn't quite enough or ideal . Any moose that can read won't go down properly unless you hit them with a .300 mag , minimum .

I have been hunting moose here in BC all my life, and I can assure you, the 270 is plenty to down the swamp donkey. Considering I have shot them with everything from the 6mm and 257 bob [Both not recommended moose slayers, though] up through the 6.5's and right on to the 338. Moose are not hard to kill. One well-placed round from anything that will penetrate [read decent bullet] lays the moose low in a hurry. Eagleye.
PS couldn't resist posting a second time, LOL

Just got back from moose hunting last nite,my daughter shot about a 4-5 year old cow,one shot with a 6.5x55 swede with barnes 120 grn bullet, it went less than 20 yards and collapsed. Two weeks ago I shot a little younger moose with my 280rem and cheap 150 grn federal bullets, 1 shot at 275 yards. I guess these moose didn't know that they had to be shot with a bigger gun. A well placed shot will do you a lot more good than a bigger gun with a bigger bullet.

If you can't kill a moose with a 270 you should try aiming at the animals vitals instead of it's arse. 270 is more than enough for moose especially if using a good quality bullet like a nosler partition.;)
