El Faison SxS! They are the best! They can fold into 2 when they break open and can EASILY fit inside of a backpack for transportation. Mine has 3" chambers and Full/Full choke. Exposed hammers and double trigger. I got mine for free but I have seen them at the local gun shop for $400-600 in MINT condition.

They tend to break, last one in good condition I saw for sale was 250$, quality was pretty poor in the one I handled, but with guns like that you have to go by the gun you are looking at. The one I saw could have been a Friday afternoon or Monday morning gun.

It would be mostly trap shooting for now...it is challenging, and will develop my shot for the bigger shotties...

Mine has screw in chokes and the patterns of the 2 1/2 inch shell betters the 3 inch but then again one who has never shot one is a far bigger authority than one who has one it seems.

Well, I see that win/64 guessed right:D By trap shooting, do you mean hand or machine thrown clay in a field or the back 40, or do you mean regulation ATA type trap? If you mean ATA type trap, yes it will be challenging. It would be cheaper and you would probably develope your shot better with a larger gauge. The 12 and the 20 would be my first and second choice. Yes I know 3mac1 shoots trap with a 28 and a .410, but he is probably a very skilled shooter who developed his skills with a larger gauge? I think he once said that he starts new shooters on skeet with a 12? Don't know that for sure, but he probably shoots smaller gauges just because he can and he has tried everything else and it's fun.

If you are looking for a gun to start clay, I think a 12 would suit you better:D

If it were me and i was looking for a starter .410 and planning to move up to larger bores, I would look for a good used cooey model 84 or 840 single shot. Should cost in the $150 range and is just as much fun to shoot as a double or pump, for way less cash.

Buy a double or pump when you move up to 20 ga or 12 ga. You're going to find the 12 ga (or maybe a 20 for upland shooting) is the gauge you'll need when you get serious at hunting or target sports. JMO.

.410 is afun gun and useful within it's limitations. Everyone needs at least one single shot .410 in their lifetime.

I am sorry Covey is right. New shooters should start with a 12ga. I was just joking about the 410 for trap.Like Covey probally did I started with a 12ga also a model 12 in fact then did the 1100's , the superx1's, the 4 barrel sets etc ,etc. Dam almost 36 years ago.Was skilled I think at one time but that is gone also.LOL
When you turn into a robot and get bored with the game then start shooting a 410, that took me about 25 years. It will humble you again.
Once again take Covey's advice and start with the 12ga, if not I can assure you it won't be pretty with a 410 and you will probally give up and quit the sport which is not what we want.

Why not a Stevens or Mossberg bolt action .410....but for one that will literally last forever...a BSA Enfield .410

Yep, I got a lot of guns in my safe including my first shotgun, a Savage .410 pump with vent rib from 1969. It is a nice handling little gun. I could really hit with that gun back in the day. Still use it in the bush for partridge. And if I really want light I dig out the Cooey .410 single shot. Neither gun has had a problem yet.:nest:

Chauser is right about the Winnie 410 levers, you have to shoot one to know how well they pattern for upland game, especially rabbits! It funny it seems that all the 9410's are in Nova scotia, haha. They were a flop for sales here in NW ONT. but now everyone and there dog wants one, my friends shop couldn't give them away!
I for one would never start shooting trap/skeet/clays with a 410, you have to be a sadist!cheers dale Z!
