Best 4''or 4 1/4 1911's?

I have a kimber tactical pro II with 106mm barrel that was specially brought in by TSE and I have to ssay the fit, finish is awesome....

the checkering on the front of the grip is perfect and so far I have run 75 rnds of lead and 200 rnds of FMJ thru it without a hitch.

simply AWESOME..... well worth the $1800 when they where brought in

I've got 2 Colt Combat Commanders.... one 9mm and one .45 ACP. Love 'em both. Can't really see myself spending more money to get a Para single stack, Kimber or STI, although each of those makers make a nice 'shortie' .45 ACP, too...

Whats the recoil like with a shorty 106mm pipe ,alum frame and 230 gr hardball ? This would be my #1 pick for a ccw .

+3 for Colt Commander (or Commander XSE if you want the "tactical" add-ons). If don't mind an alloy frame, a scandium S&W would also be a good choice.

Don't have any experience with Kimber, but from what I read on the Internet, Series II guns are having all sorts of problems with poor quality MIM parts and external extractors.

That's the problem with the internet, all kinds of stuff that needs to be evaluated and is not always accurate. We had 2 runs of Kimber Pro series guns done. We even ran one on the range. No problems with either MIM parts or external extractors. It might help to realize that Kimber is the largest 1911 manufacturer in the US and has been for quite some time. More guns generally = more problems.

Fair enough. But isn't Kimber slowly phasing out external extractors?

If I had to go with a little compact M1911-A1,... I would have to go with the Springfield Armory .45 Auto......f*ck all those chambered for 9mm in a 1911....thats too p*ssy....I'm sorry but it is.....its .45 Auto or nothing... If your worried about mag capacity, carry some extra clips, DONT sacrifice calibre size.

Second choice would have to be the Kimber.

They may be, but in my opinion based more on internet #####ing than performance. You will note that S&W has not seen the same up roar on their external extractor.

I would agree with Dragoon - plus the beavertail is a novel design. There is also the Wilson Combat SDS in a similar category

If you like a 4.25" I would go with a Norinco/Para LTC. The former if you want to spend a few bucks on new sights and a trigger job the latter if you don't. Both are excellent guns. Colt is to hit and miss and the rest could be a problem with warranty work if it is necessary.

Not that it REALLY matters here in Canada, but what condition would you carry a SA pistol in, for day to day carry?

First guy to say "excellent condition" gets declared a zombie!!:p

Kimber and Wilson are great - and accurate. I am a colt fan all the way and have a 1911 (that was built in 1917) and is still shooting fine after 89 years and god knows how many thousand rounds :D

But please don't list Chinese Govt crap in the same post. :p

You got to be kidding....right! Notice I didn't mention Colt in my post, for much the same reason you apparently think so little of Norinco pistols.
