Best 9mm for $700 or under

The best buy would be the pistol that FITS YOU and that YOU OPERATE(see shoot) WITH THE MOST PROFICIENCY.

**rant on** I'm tired of all these f**king threads that start with "what's the best...." There is no best, there are good and quality parts, makes, models, styles, etc etc. Best is a subjective term and usually a biased opinion.

Maybe its just me but the mere request for "what is the best" simply screams of someone who does not wish to do their own research and is afraid of making a mistake or poor choice. Its called life. Live a little, take the chance like the rest of us have. Live and learn.

Now there's nothing wrong with asking "what is a good choice..." or "what is a reliable choice...". Asking for advice is fine. Asking to be spoon fed the answers is what I see in "what is the best".

TDC: I think it's just wording. They don't actually mean "what's THE BEST" they mean "which do you prefer". We live in a democracy, and the majority, in any circumstance, is alleged to have some sort of wisdom, so seeing which pistols are preferred by the majority can lend insight to a purchase.

If the problem is choice of words or vocabulary. Then I suggest some people review their word choices. The misunderstanding, rather poor comprehension of said wording causes many unnecessary debates and/or posts that do not answer the intended question.

He didn't ask for the best gun but the best buy..........meaning price/quality/relialibility! He comes to you (us) because he thinks that he will get a good, well evaluated answer since he doesn't have the money to make a mistake...he came to the pros???? because of the lack of knowledgeable people in his area (gunshop commandos)....and he never said that he will buy what we tell him but that he will try them (our suggestions) (since he's in the US) and then make his choice, according to our smart answers!

Cheers

My rant wasn't directed at anyone in specific. My point was that thread starters need to word their request differently. Some of us understand what they are asking. Others do not. Still, some posters really are asking for "the best". There is no such thing. In this case he is asking for a "good deal" or an "excellent choice". There is no "best". Everything has its pros and cons, which can be debated until the end of time. Therefore, you cannot definitively label anything "the best".

where in NS do you live , maybe there is a club around that can help you answer that question for yourself,I know we helped out a lot of people that way.like someone else said the best gun is the one that feels and shoots the best for you.

I like lace panties. :D

Been spending alone time with the Sear's catalogue again? ;)

If anyone really cares....

Here's how it breaks down for me...

I'm not about to lay down 700+/- on a gun that I can’t even fire, on the advice of a gun shop commando who’s being paid $8hr for his "professional opinion". That would be utter stupidity on my part. Further more after taking the plunge and later figuring I bought the wrong gun for me I’m not about to let it sit on the EE for months on end, finally taking a loss on selling it cause it’s a heap of crap that know one else wants. A situation, which could have been avoided by asking for advice the first time round.

Lets back up to the title of the thread “best 9mm for under $700”. Well yes “best” is subjective…. But I did give quantitative terms…. so is it my “poor choice of vocabulary or someone else’s miscomprehension?

Of course everyone has opinions of fit and finish and function…so give me that…. give me your opinion of 9mm pistols under 700. If there are one or two manufactures that yield positive responses that will give me a starting point in making my selection. If 50 people say buy a glock that doesn’t mean I will, but it will certainly make the short list. Its called listening to the advice of seasoned shooters. Otherwise known as doing my research. I suppose if I wanted to I could read some biased reviews…. I’m sure that would be helpful. In my opinion best way is to ask the people that shoot the guns…cant go wrong with that. After all I live in Nova Scotia…not a lot of mega stores with a wide selection, so I can almost bet I won’t even get to wrap my fingers around the grip before the transfer is completed.

If I wanted to be “spoon fed” I would give someone the 700 and tell them to get me what they think is best…again utter stupidity

Good choice and reliable choice are also subjective or are they relative? Who knows and who gives a s**t. Isn’t semantics fun?

I just want to spend my money wisely…. why re-invent the wheel by making uneducated newbie decisions.

Here is my 2 cents if it's worth anything.

My first choice would be a S&W M&P. I've bought it and right out of the box with the smallest grip size installed, I had great success in terms of grouping and the consistancy of the groupings. The pistol had a great finish on the slide (compared to a Glock) and it just pointed very naturally.

My second choice would be a CZ75. A little heavier, but again points naturally for me, and the grip although slightly thicker, still felt great. But for me, I felt that the trigger pull is not as good as the M&P.

My third choice would be a Glock17. I've given this pistol 3 seperate chance, buying 3 seperate Glock17's on 3 seperate occasions, but still had no luck with it. I couldn't get the groups to be consistant, and it didn't point naturally for me. But the trigger was decent and I've seen ton's of people have success with it. Therefore I wouldn't count it out for you, just because it didn't work out for me.

If you had a slightly bigger budget for a pistol, I'd recommend something else, but for this particular thread, I'll spare you my other thoughts.

If you're a man, Glock 17, if you have fragile effeminate hands and an affinity for laced panties and complaining about grips on a service gun - the M&P will suit you just fine.

:D LMFAO best one I read this year so far.......
try before you buy if possible

Yes your question was not the best. Asking what is the best pistol is like asking what is the best car.

Most of them are good guns. They all have their pluses and minuses. There has been a lot of people suggesting Glocks and a lot suggesting a CZ-75 style platform. Both are excellent guns. They are both at opposite ends of the spectrum.

You have to try them. If you don't have much experience with handguns your current choice may not be what you would have decided had you shot for some time. Or you may still like the platform as time goes on.

There have been some good suggestions but that doesn't seem good enough for you. What do you want us to tell you? Handgun XDP is good but at shot number 1837 the firing pin breaks so you should order one at shot 1685 because it take at least 150 shots for it to come in and you want to have at least 2 shots as a safety factor. Sorry but nobody can tell you this.

If there were real bad they would not be on the market. What you have to do is consider what the gun was designed to do. Is that criteria compatible with the type of shooting you plan to do?

As I have previously said, carry guns are typically lighter because the market for that kind of gun wanted less weight. Less weight is great when it is on your hip but not always what you want in your hand.

There are "safe action" guns out there. They are made for a purpose. Some target shooters think they are fine. Others (like me) absolutely hate them. Great guns, but not for me.

If it is the most reliable gun on the market, has a great track record, easy to get parts for in the rare occurrence when you lost a part when cleaning (since it would never fail in use), it still is a crappy gun if you don't like how it feels in your hand while shooting it.

Sorry that you are out in the boonies and can't fondle what is available. I'm in Winnipeg and things are not much better here. That's one of the reasons I display a lot of my guns at a local gun show. To let people see some of the guns that are available.

Do you belong to a gun club yet? This is where you will get to see and often try different guns. Many handgun owners will let you try their guns after you talk to them for while. I didn't know much about handguns 12 years ago when I took up shooting. I learned a lot from other shooters. I shot quite a number of different guns as well. And when we have new members join the club, and the know little about handguns, I let them shoot my guns and tell them things to consider when buying a gun.

You have had some suggestions of good guns to consider. Take that list and find a way to try some of them.

I'd normally call for CZ75-CZ85 but if you are on budget, go with either G17, or G22 if you think of reloading in the future (cheaper and better ammo).
Reason: you can get so many accessories (sights, holster, mags) for cheap and readily awailable almost anywhere.
