Best 9mm for $700 or under

I'd normally call for CZ75-CZ85 but if you are on budget, go with either G17, or G22 if you think of reloading in the future (cheaper and better ammo).
Reason: you can get so many accessories (sights, holster, mags) for cheap and readily awailable almost anywhere.

I bought a very good condition CZ-85 (light holster wear) with four mags, holster, and two dual magazine pouches for $550 shipped off the EE. I have seen similar deals in the last couple of years. The trigger was smoother than new guns I've tried.

My short list would go something like this:

Certified Sig 226 -Refurb.
Glock 17
S&W M&P

I'd buy new if you can get a good deal (S&W is really flogging the M&Ps right now:)), or gently used (as is the case of the Sig refurbs.) from the board here.
I'd steer clear of Norinco, FEG, Taurus and Beretta

I like all my 9mms. I have a Glock G17, CZ 75 pre-b and Norinco NP-29. They all shoot better than me and all under 700.

If anyone really cares....

Here's how it breaks down for me...

I'm not about to lay down 700+/- on a gun that I can’t even fire, on the advice of a gun shop commando who’s being paid $8hr for his "professional opinion". That would be utter stupidity on my part. Further more after taking the plunge and later figuring I bought the wrong gun for me I’m not about to let it sit on the EE for months on end, finally taking a loss on selling it cause it’s a heap of crap that know one else wants. A situation, which could have been avoided by asking for advice the first time round.

Lets back up to the title of the thread “best 9mm for under $700”. Well yes “best” is subjective…. But I did give quantitative terms…. so is it my “poor choice of vocabulary or someone else’s miscomprehension?

Of course everyone has opinions of fit and finish and function…so give me that…. give me your opinion of 9mm pistols under 700. If there are one or two manufactures that yield positive responses that will give me a starting point in making my selection. If 50 people say buy a glock that doesn’t mean I will, but it will certainly make the short list. Its called listening to the advice of seasoned shooters. Otherwise known as doing my research. I suppose if I wanted to I could read some biased reviews…. I’m sure that would be helpful. In my opinion best way is to ask the people that shoot the guns…cant go wrong with that. After all I live in Nova Scotia…not a lot of mega stores with a wide selection, so I can almost bet I won’t even get to wrap my fingers around the grip before the transfer is completed.

If I wanted to be “spoon fed” I would give someone the 700 and tell them to get me what they think is best…again utter stupidity

Good choice and reliable choice are also subjective or are they relative? Who knows and who gives a s**t. Isn’t semantics fun?

I just want to spend my money wisely…. why re-invent the wheel by making uneducated newbie decisions.
By posting a thread of this nature, you're asking to be spoon fed..then you spit it up on us? Bad Baby!!
In that case..since you're new to it,try bringing your budget down and get one to mess around with to get a feel for them.

A Norinco Sig clone for $349 from Marstar would be a good place to start.
Resale wise you can't lose, but for the price you would pay,why sell it anyways?

And what makes you think you have to jump into a 9mm? You could just as well pick up a nice Ruger 22/45 for $300 and a brick of $10 .22's and get familiar with pistols while not breaking the bank.

*packs your lunch for you* Now you have a good day :)

Good looking gun Rudy.

That NP-34 (SIG p228 clone) from Marstar for $349 looks like a deal
You could get a p226 clone AND a P228 clone for $700

I've got one of these babies and I love it to bits n' pieces! Shoots like a hotdamn and is an amazing copy of the real McCoy!

My other babies include:

Glock 22 .40
Norinco Tokarev 7.62
Norinco Feg 9mm
Ruger Vacquero .45 Colt
Sprinfield Arms 1911 Milspec .45 ACP
Feg Arms 9mm
Browning .22

I've been through the same problem. Just try some and the range and buy what you like and what you are able to shoot best. SIGs are excellent and so are CZs. Both brands come in many choices.

Hey guys

I’m new to the pistol-shooting scene. I am looking at purchasing my first 9mm. I live in Nova Scotia so it’s not easy to just walk into a shop and browse the wares. Frankly I am finding it difficult to find a good selection of new pistols online as well.

So to the question....

If my budget was $700 what’s the best buy out there for my money. Keeping in mind I may like to do IPSC someday, parts should be readily available, and the gun needs to be reliable.

I welcome any advice for someone in my position (new to pistol shooting).

Oh I should mention I am in the US on business this week...I just so happen to be working 2 blocks from the largest indoor pistol range on the east coast. They rent all sorts for toys to try out. So whatever advice I can get I will try before I leave, maybe that may help influence my decision.

Thanks

I say the Ruger P89 decocker ss version. Its brand new cost is around $525 and lets you have couple hundreds to buy plenty of ammo. Accurate enough and super reliable but there would be catch. It requires the stomach to take the teasings. People frequently call it a brick. I own one for couple of years and I am very happy with it. I simply do not care about what others say about it.
