Best AR optic under 500$??

Lol how do you ask for an optic recommendation, but not state what your intended usage is? An optic for 3 gun would be different than CQB, or service rifle, or PRS. A red dot is no good for precision/long range, and a crazy high magnification optic is no good for close range or fast shooting.

What you wanna do with it?

Plinking at the range up to 100 yards and home defense duty.

I would have to throw my hat towards a primary arms optic that meets your needs.

Agreed. Check this out:

Their 1-4 is really inexpensive ($199 at CTCSupplies), but you can do better than that. Their 1-6 (only the second focal plane models) nudge in just under the $500 mark ($474 at CTCSupplies, multiple reticle options to choose from).

I'm incredibly happy with Primary Arms low power variable optics (LPVOs). I have a 1-6 Trijicon Accupoint for about four times the price, and while it's better than Primary Arms, it's not four times better. It's like 10% better.

The Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 or the 1-8x24. Best warranty in the business and reasonably priced. Excellent optics and reticles.

Or combine a Vortex Strike Fire 2 with the 3MT magnifier for a versatile red dot option on cantilever and raised rail adapters.

A 1-x (1-4, 1-6) scope would probably work well for 100 and under yard plinking. Can't say about home defense, lol. I like the Bushnell AR Optics 1-4 FFP with the illuminated reticle; at 1x it acts like a red dot with the illumination on, but you still have an etched reticle to rely on if the electronics #### the bed. Being first focal place, the reticle size changes based on magnification, so it has a usable reticle at 4x. Too bad they don't come in 6x though (Which is the reason I bought a 1x6 Strike Eagle)

I have the 1-6x on my MR-1 and it's good for a night capable, go anywhere rifle.
