Best AR Pistol Magazine?

I'm really surprised the guys like the polymer ATRS mags over the metal variants...why?

As soon as I got AA metal mags, I sold my ATRS mags to fund more AA's. After my first trip to the range with them, I forgot all about how much they cost.
Now I'm tempted to just buy metal 5x rounders in the future instead of pmags. I love metal!

How does one identify whether or not you have an anti-tilt follower?

Tilt is green... Anti tilt is orange... Both come in various voles, it is the shape of the follower ramp that is the indicator...

I prefer the LAR or whatever 10 round pistol mags with the GSDesign plastic extension - it is cost effective and it gives the shape of the regular 30rder. For training purpose, it can be "grabbed" the same way as the real mag and monopoded like the real mag, and there is no funky issue with standard mag pouches. This training issue and muscle memory are more important to me than anything else. They could also be taken apart completely for cleaning.

I have been using the c products lar mags in my Tavor with only one issue, They really need to be forced in when they are full, and the bolt is forward. Other than that they are great.

I really want to pick up some of the 2nd gen ARTS mags though.

This has been my experience as well. The PCV function fine but I'm disappointed they only hold 14 rounds in the gen 2 version, not worth the cost difference for 4 extra rounds IMHO. I will be looking for the AT15 mags at half the cost when they arrive.

Are those even legal? My understanding was that the RCMP did not approve 30 round magazines modified to 10 rounds only purpose built 10 rounders.

So what about a glock magazine of 17 rounds pinned to 10 rounds? Thats a pistol magazine of 17 rounds pinned afterwards to 10 rounds.
So a lar 30 round pinned to 10 round, is a pistol magazine of 30 rounds pinned afterwards to 10 rounds
Same thing

RCMP claim 30 round mags, in capacity and shape alone are a rifle magazine design. Hence why LAR mags are a different shape than 10 round rifle mags, and ATRS mags are shaped line 25 rounders.

And no glock mag shape was ever a rifle mag. Just what they say.

But, like PCV, these are out there, and no manufacturer or distributor has been charged.

They are being sold online, and at gun shows where the CFO have been present. No charges... As of yet.

Huh. That's new. Personally I have no interest in a long-bodied magazine because it protrudes beneath my rifle and makes it impossible for me to use the pistol grip as a monopod. I can see the utility in a standard platform though.

I disagree wholeheartedly with that logic. I know it flows with the law as it is written, but anyone with any firearms knowledge is well aware that AR15 (and others) "pistols" are not "handguns" by any logical definition. They are rifles, and are only "pistols" because they are shoehorned to meet the poorly written definition of what constitutes a "handgun". I'm not saying that it is a bad thing (well, it is, and so is the whole Firearms Act, but I digress), but I think it is a tremendous leap in logic to compare magazines designed for a Glock, which is a pistol/handgun, to magazines "designed" for a rifle "pistol". Like I said, I know you are technically right, but it does not take a genius so see through the thinly disguised veil of a company "designing" a pistol magazine by crimping a stock 30 rounder and writing "Pistol magazine" on the side. Regardless I am not interested in a long 10/30 magazine, though I would be interested in a 10/20 if that was available.

Does anyone have a bunch of the aforementioned pistol magazines handy? Would it possible to take some comparison photos showing the differences in lengths and general design? Looking online does not reveal much. And another question, are the Black/Orange LAR mags longer than the Grey LAR mags?

That's what I thought. I know I read somewhere that re-pinning and marking a 30 rounder for 10 rounds of pistol ammo was verboten.

Interesting. I never thought of doing that. Most users mono-pod off the 30 round length magazine. Worth checking out I guess. Crazy low to the ground for sure.

ATRS are the best mags out there,

LAR's are junk and are too small.
PVC-50 mags feel like cheap crap and the feed lips bend.
Magpuls only hold 5
AA Beowulf are way to expensive.

I am running a Bushmaster M17S bullpup rifle. It has a very high grip and a short, half-length magazine well. It is very comfortable to fire from the ground balancing off the pistol grip because the front edge of the grip is at the exactly in the center of gravity. The PCV magazines are the perfect length, and the base is about 1/4" higher than the bottom of the grip. Anything longer gets in the way.
