best ar15 for the money

Most AR for the money: Norinco (but only if you can have one for < $600)

Best bang for your buck quality rifle that will accept all the goodies and looks good: Stag

I did my homework on ARs before I bought Stag (there was a great post, or sticky, on the available offerings on this forum but I don't know where it went) - Anyway, I went Stag with no regrets.

I'll never give up my Norinco AR either. - It's been completely without problems but for the $770 that dealers want now I'd want something that could take accessories (crap metric threading on Norcs.) and a finish you could "take home to mother".

Edit to add: I just read GreenTips post and I've got to say it makes VERY GOOD sense. Buy from someone who can fix it.

+1 on that. Thats what I run too.

That said, if the quality of the Stag upper is the same as the lower it would also be a good choice.

What makes the Stag lower better than an LMT lower? I am running a LMT upper and lower. Just curious.

Basically the same except for logo. I prefer an AR of the same company. ie. ALL LMT or ALL Stag. Of course, both of those would be nice.

Stag lower and LMT upper will be my first. All the extras will come from the local king of service as well, so I have a top three dealer combo in one rifle build. All good guys from what I've heard! Lego for big boys!

If LMT didn't etch their logo on their 14.5" upper I'd grab it. RRA makes a great rifle for slightly less than Stag.

I don't like the white lettering on the LMT's either. Won't stop me from getting one though whenever get some $$$. Will prob just scratch/rub/color it off perhaps.

Same here, I want an M4 clone, but I will probably pick one up unless Walt at AEI finally gets approved for those Stag 14.5's..... (nudges and winks profusely).

GT is correct here, just because someone is new to the AR scene doesn't mean they should inadvertently buy a gun with built in malfunctions. Companies that do not stake the carrier keys are asking the consumer to accept a built in malfunction...sorry, I'm paying for a repeater, not a straight pull facsimile...if you cut that corner what else did you cheap out on.

Thank you for all the information guys I think that i have settled on a stag-15 model 4 pre ban.:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: Who deals in stag in Canada, Eastern preferable. Thanks again for all the information. Just one more quick question. I see some AR are chambered in .223 and others are 5.56mm NATO. I was lead to believe that these are the same? Any advice?

I hear them Arms East guys in Newfoundland might have what you're looking for. ;)

I also hear them Newfies have a special batch of 1/7" 4150 16.1" 5.56 Nato chambers MPI'd barrels in the proper M4 profile...Walter if you are out of those and someone needs one bad I can send one back your way...reluctantly but you've been real good to us.

14.5" M4 profile is the correct M4 profile. ;)

I bought the Stag Arms and I had never owned a gun before. It is a pretty wild rifle. If you dont know what you are doing I would suggest buying a complete rifle and then waiting a year before you begin to know what you want.

I made alot of mistakes with mine as far as tricking it out is concerned, and I wasted alot of money. With AR's it is true that you get what you pay for. Keep the rifle simple until you know exactly what you want. Dont get too excited like I did.

:)

Stag is totally the way to go... super easy to deal with. Get a complete lower and a complete upper and save a couple hundred.

As soon as I got mine I put 600rds through without a cleaning... not a single jam. It's now cleaned religiously... but at least I know what it can do.
