Best bang for buck starter ar?

Norinco.
Lots of people out there competing with them. They shoot well right out of the box and make a good platform for upgrades.
Commercial not mil spec buffer tube. Not a deal breaker. Removable carry handle to mount optics. Comes with a cleaning kit, sling and 2 mags.
Dump the mags as they are the only cheaply made and barely functional component sold with the rifle.
You can spend the money you save on some ammo or optics.

I went through this whole thing a year ago, borrowed and tried a number of different rifles at the range, did a bunch of reading, and bought a Windham.

Fit and finish on a WW-15 is noticeably better than the Norinco's in almost every way.

I was able to get one, NIB, on sale from a site sponsor for $700 (keep your eyes open, and you can too, the sales are moderately frequent) which put it so close to the going rate for a Norinco that it wasn't worth haggling over.

Very happy with it so far. 2.5" groups at 100 yards with the cheapest bulk ammo. One of these days, I'll spend some money on a selection of good ammo, and sit down and really figure out what it can do.

I want one with a long for grip on it, for the more modern grip.

Then you'll either need to pony up for something like a Daniel Defence, or add your own foregrip. Norcs are fine for the money, but can be a real pain to accessorize as SOME are out of spec. Get a DD if you have the cash; if not I suggest you look to a Windham, Aeroprecision or CORE and add your own foregrip. Look to get one without a front sight base, or you'll need to knock that off for a low-pro gas block.

i went super cheap on mine and built it.
custom lower with parts sourced at dealers and the ee
norinco 14.5 upper and bcg - new front hand guard and sights
some parts were bought used like the rail and sights but they were in good shape and much cheaper

total i have into less optics is about 750

it is reliable as hell - about 4000 rounds now - two stoppages - both ammo related

i know building is beyond some peoples skill level but is an alternative to spending and will get you exactly what you want.

the norinco with good ammo is 1.5 moa btw - more than enough for the games i play with it

in my opinion you do not need a 3000$ AR - they are nice but not necessary.

I'm thinking like 1000$ an6 suggestions for one's without the front site post so I can just buy a hand guard? Most budget ones have that front site.

Did you get your license already? That was fast, congrats!

So, how did the Norc group compared to the M&P? What ammo performed the best based on your personal experience?

Pics!
