M305 (Semi Auto M14) sucks rocks compared to the FN FAL

Kind of an apples and oranges comparison, civi repro compared to a real battle rifle.......

I love the FN too, but I can't own one, so my M-305 is cheap accurate fun...:dancingbanana:

Its not which is the best Battle Rifle you can own,its just "Best Battle Rifle" And since most M14s in service had thier happy switches lock,it's apples and apples.
But you are right,if it came down to availability,it would be the M14/M305.

I'm going to go with the No.4 Lee-Enfield.

Battle Rifles need not be semi-automatic after all, the Enfield, the American Springfield, and other bolt action battle rifles were called battle rifles before semi-automatic versions came about. :)

I would say an AR-10 is the "best", though I am very fond of my FNC1....
Norinco's M-14 is the best value for the dollar.....IMHO

Bostons Gun Bible puts the M14 slightly ahead of the FAL.

That's probably because of biased American views of a foreign made firearm. They still think the Norc M305's are crap even though they can out-shoot a $2000 SA M14 (with a little tweaking).

The FAL is still the best ever battle rifle.

I have 2 FALs in my herd I am proud to say!!!

I've owned an L1A1 - it was cheap, reliable, accurate and restricted - if they were available (in any form) unrestricted I'd be happy. As it is I'm going to get an M14 and it'll probably be just fine. After all, only a Liberal can see that much of a difference between the two.

Erg, thankfully that situation is not the case.

For Defence and constant fighting I would go AK47 for pure reliability

If it was more for hunting and long range sort of stuff I would go M-14

You decide :D  sweet videos

If the question was which unrestricted battle rifle I would have to say Enfield
for a legal 10 rounds.
Best bang for buck- M305
If I could have any Battle rifle -custom FAL
Exellent battlerifle no one picked -SVD

The best battle rifle that I own is a MK14 SEI with an 18" chrome lined
M118LR standard profile MK14 barrel threaded onto a Norinco receiver.
All parts (trigger group, op rod and bolt) are USGI TRW.

Hey everyone,

I was just curious what the consenes was on the best battle rifle available on the market these days.

I was thinking the M14 / M1A and its varients would be the best IMHO.

But I wonder, if you could only have one rifle for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The title of your post...I really don't think it's much of a dispute.
The FN FAL is the best.

As to your question, since the market for new rifles only allows for the "also-ran" guns it really doesn't matter as you are no going to get the best.
Having said that, I'd get a 305 just because it's non-restricted.

I would assume no one picked the SVD because it's intended and designed to be a sniper rifle/DMR? I'm also assuming you mean SVD as in Dragunov SVD?
