In your opinion, which Black Rifle offers the best value (or bang for your buck). This could be price, features, reliability/durability, quality, sheer pleasure and enjoyment - even non-restricted status. Any black rifles (regardless of caliber) are eligible for the discussion.

The Top 3 best-written responses win something really cool.

I would say for restricted, best bang for the buck given all of the categories listed, would be the norinco cq556. The only thing it lacks in the given categories listed is fit and finish.(aside from being restricted). They go bang every time, with groups no worse than my bushmaster.

Non restricted i would have to say hands down the mini 14. Sure there are some cool black rifles out there, but get serious, not every shooter can afford 3K to spend on a rifle.

Mini, can be had for around 500$ used, and with tacticool goodies, makes a nice non restricted rifle, for cheap.

You're really going to have to try harder than that if you want a chance at winning a Magpul video. Oops... did I say video?

Arh crap.. i really do want to learn that new age, super cool guy, scorpion grip stance ..

Given my usage, wants and needs there are two answers IMO...

For purely the most fun at a range for the least bucks the Norc M4gery wins hands down. Uses AR 10rd mags (obviously), drinks Magpul kool-aid, can be upgraded easily with triggers, safeties, rails, uppers etc. and you can be shooting with it, a couple of mags and 500 rounds of ammo for under a grand brand new.

Away from a range and in a gopher patch, I'd have to say the HK SL8. The most accurate out of the box non-res black rifle I've owned/fired by far (haven't tried a Swiss, but they're in another price zone anyways), can take AR 10rd mags with a magwell swap, is ambi out of the box, has G36 upgrade options (if that's your thing) and you can be zinging varmints with it for just over two grand.

Rifles I've owned to base this on: Norc M4 (2), Stag lefty AR, Tavor (2), non-res FS2000, HK SL8, Mini-14 (3), JR Carbine, non-res CX4. I've also tried an XCR and an ACR (briefly..very nice rifle, but pricey).

Restricted- Norinco CQ556
-Awesome way for new shooters or even older shooter who are on a budget to get into AR shooting
-Reportedly it will shoot or outshoot any Bushmaster.
-If the buyer enjoys shooting the AR they have the option to always upgrade to higher quality parts if they choose to do so.
-And they come in 10.5" or 14.5" barrels to choose from

Non-Restricted-Kel-Tec SU-16F
-Roughly the same price as the Norinco
-Takes AR Mags
-Reportedly shoots 1 MOA with decent quality ammo unlike a cheaper used mini 14
-Folds in half, makes for a great bushgun
-Can hold either one 5/30 round mag or 2 LAR Mags in the stock
-Handguard folds into a bipod (nice feature to have)
-If the owner doesn't like the folding stock and/or the bipod Handguard, they can upgrade to a pistol grip with an AR stock and/or a railed Handguard for those who want an ARish look without spending 2k+ on an XCR
-Comes with an integral scope mount (saves a bit of money if you want to put optics onto it)

For the money it's awesome because it has really neat features that come with the rifle, bone stock from the factory for a little more money than a used mini 14 where you have to spend more money on a new stock, scope mount, etc.

I dunno, I'd say that the Stag offerrings coming out of Arms East right now are pretty tough to beat. Stag is getting to be an established name for quality AR's down south now and the price points are more than reasonable. If I were looking for a quality, bare bones AR, I'd be considering one of these seriously.

My mosin I spray painted black to piss the world off...and it worked!!! Also a black coloured gun makes its deadily to babies didn't you know!...just ask an anti

AND last but not least...if you have a black coloured gun you can tell all the 14 year old Call of Duty and airsoft kids its a stealth sniper rifle and cost you over $10,000!!!

Norinco M305.
1) limited supply (they're not making any more, so you better buy yours!)
2) great price
3) is actually a black rifle
4) almost nobody bad mouths 308
5) AIA 10 rounders?
6) a cult of tinkerers found on gun nutz to help you along.

Ruger SR-22:

-Non restricted
-Can be had for around $500 or so
-Can shoot it all day for $20
-High capacity magazines
-Tons of accessories to make it as bad ass looking as you would like

I know I know it may not be a "black rifle" but its probably one of the most fun guns that I own and one of the few that make it out shooting with me every time I go.

Swiss Arms Black Special/Classic Green.
Covers it all... reliability/durability, quality, sheer pleasure and enjoyment, and non-restricted.

CX4 storm. You can find them for around 1k. They can be used on a pistol range or rifle range. Plus they can be made non restricted. 10 round mags. It breaks down into two parts with one pin. Simply but reliable blow back, basically a large semi auto pistol. Looks cool, ergonomics are decent and accuracy is fairly good. Even die hard Fudds seem to have fun shooting one.

Also it's ready to go right from the box. No need for lots of upgrades.

Fun at the range, fun off the range, affordable to shoot, 10 round mags, good ergos, well built and reliable.

Upper end 21 st century rifle. The Tavor is still the best value although the ACR has promise for the future once they have all the bugs worked out and are produced in volume. Right now it still seems like a concept product.

Tavor can be found for $2750 with picatiny rail and no optic. Put on an optic, and it's ready to go. It's a non restricted bull pup that takes stanag AR mags. The ergonomics are excellent including decent mag changes. It's a ground up piston system with an 18.5" barrel in a package shorter than a M4 with the stock collapsed. Everything is correct such as flash hider. You're getting a military grade semi auto that's a tested product. Contrary to some of the claims accuracy is good when you find the ammo it likes. The trigger isn't match grade but it's not bad once you get used to it. Off hand at rifle distances it's a tough to beat rifle. It balances and points very well. It's my favourite for shooting off hand or three position shooting.

Overall and for the money along with use I still say the Storm is the winner.

That being said if the AR15 and AR10 were non restricted we wouldn't be having this discussion. It would be which AR is the most for the money.

I thought the magpul guys had beard/goatee? Do they shave to make the dvds?

Oh never mind, I've been informed this is a "parody" video, though it was damn close.
