Best Black Rifle for the Money? (prizes for best responses!)

I've always been a sucker for a good vomit story, but a picture of a stack of bullpups gives me certain...feelings. Too close to call IMO, so crack open the box, send them each one DVD and say it's a tie. :)

I've got three - so just wondering who the last one should go to...

3 eh? Gotta be Claven then...he's the only one to recommend a rifle he doesn't/wouldn't own.

And not only does his reasoning make sense, I really want to get one now. Some sort of hypnosis maybe? Or just another impulse buy? :)

In my opinion the Swiss arms carbine with the 14 inch barrel is the best out of the box black rifle on the market for the following reasons.
-not too heavy
-the rotary drum sights are excellent, and offer night sight capability. The front sight is hooded and can withstand a lot of abuse before affecting poi.
- the SAN barrel can withstand 30,000 rounds at full auto before becoming useless unreliable on the battle field
- the magazines can also withstand 30,000 round cycles before needing replacing, so a single polymer magazine can last as long as the barrel
- the rifle is easily broken down for field cleaning (two push pins)
-different gas setting allow the user to continue firing even when the gun is seiously fouled
-the rifle is plenty accurate for battle
-the shorter barrel is easy to handle, offers greater accuracy than the 20 inch barrels as its stiffer and is affected less by the piston pressures than the longer barrel
-the gas system is longer than the cqb and sees exactly 1/2 the pressures the cqb sees which means longer reliable life, and less stress on the parts.
-if a bayonet and grenade launcher are necessary then a 17 inch barrel is availabe
-folding stock is handy for compactness, pistol grip is a storage compartment for knife, matches or spare ammo
rifle can fire 15,000 plus rounds dry, without lube
-trigger guard that moves out of the way when using gloves
-magazines are translucent saving precious time in assessing ammo volumes
-the material quality in the BCG, firing pin, barrel, trigger components, and even the springs is several levels above many other guns on the market today, which means less failures and longer lasting

All of these features are what are important to me in a weapon system. If I must go to battle with one gun, and have it last me from beginning to end, there is no other gun I would rather have than a Swiss made SAN. for me it would be the SAPR, in fact it is the SAPR, just not in Canada, yet.

I would agree. I liked Claven's reasoning and the methodical way he went about his post.

I do however disagree with his conclusion. I've handled the other Kel-Tec products including the KelTec SU16. The RFB is the only one that interested me. Built quality of the others was pretty typical Kel-Tec. It's a very utilitarian firearm but it just doesn't have the quality in the build. As a buddy of mine said if they just made them better and a bit more expensive he'd have one in a heartbeat.

Good write up though and I like his process of elimination.

I can always head downstairs and grab a few more "black rifles" to add to the stack in order to secure the Farmer Harv vote...:D

I also have to say I enjoyed the Clobb Yak story, and liked Claven's reasoning behind his choice...I like the idea of a folding rifle (SU16), but I think Epoxy is right and it doesn't seem to have the same level of quality as the RFB... I'm saving my sheckles for the KSG though....mmmmm..... KSG....mmmm

In my opinion, the absolute best bang for the buck black rifle is the...

A r m a l i t e A R - 1 8 0 B

What you get:
-Non-Restricted
-Gas-Piston system
-AR Magazines
-###y looking
-.223/5.56 chambering
-Ability to easily mount am optic/rds (that co-witnesses) if you want as long as you get the rail
-Constructed reasonably well and with modern techniques (i.e. modular; parts can interchange between rifles, there is no BS filing parts to make them fit)
-Accurate
-Very similar to AR-15 with regards to takedown/mainternance
-CHEAP!!!

No doubt about it, this is THE best BLACK rifle in Canada for the money.

*When Armalite starts making these again I am getting one. Period. Damn the USA's current AR15 craze.*

BTW I've owned two in the past. Awesomeness.
For reference I've owned 50% of the rifles listed in this thread at one point.

I would be great to see the responses to this same question when asked to guys who have been in a war theater, and then to another group of 'elite' handpicked fighters. I bet the responses would be a little different than they are from mostly range users.

You send a guy deep in the jungle on a specific mission. His thought process on picking the gun of choice would be real interesting to see.

taken from the helicopter crash of the seal team 6 members. Looks like one of them chose the HK416.

That will buff right out. :p

If it was a semi auto lower it would go up on the EE as "barely used and only just broken in" for new prices!! :D

CX4 Storm, mine is a 45 cal. This gun is a great light wieght very agile. Excellent for close quarters to about 100 yards.
