Best Black Rifle for the Money? (prizes for best responses!)

There is nothing like an AR-15.

Sure they are restricted and that definitely is no joy. But there is nothing like stoner's design. Nowadays they can be had in so many different set-up thanks to it's modularity, and the fact it is available for so long already... You want a cheap plinker? go for a Norinco, you want a pricey tac driver? go for a Noveske, or you can even buid one from parts so you get exactly exclusively what you want. You cannot get a better value than that, no matter how you look at it a specific AR-15 is going to be the best bang for your buck.

AR-15 is on the boat of great firearms designed by great men; same boat you find the 94, the 1911, the M1, the AK-45, the M700...

I'ld like to nominate the "Cooey".

It was tactical before Krylon knew what black was.

Accessories, I have seen duct tape, loctite, superglue, brass drifts, wood screws, finishing nails, robertson, philips and flat screws, elastic bands, thread, string, fishing line and hose clamps and bicycle tubing. I am just getting warmed up talking about the stock so far,,,.

Now as far as the receiver and barrel go, we've seen, cut, ground, drilled, tapped, welded, soldered, rusted, scaled, buried, drowned, dipped, blued, acid washed, re-blued, painted, threaded and whatever else man, boy or bubba could attempt with all manner of hand and power tool.

,,,and once,,, an extractor may have failed,,,.

Respect those Cooeys' in the E&E.

...I've been informed this is a "parody" video...

Been informed? Did you get someone to read the big white letters on the top of the video that said 'MAGPUL DYNAMICS / CHRIS COSTA PARODY' to you?

As for the best black gun for the money, One Shot can build a nice AR for a decent price. And the NEA guns are pretty much untouchable as far as price point.

The XCR. Another rifle I wanted to like, but when I picked one up it just wasn't for me. It's hard to describe, on paper it's perfect.

I shot one in 7.62x39 last year. It was actually pretty good. It made me think about buying one at the time. But after a day or two, the feeling passed. :p

Swiss Arms Black Special/Classic Green.
Covers it all... reliability/durability, quality, sheer pleasure and enjoyment, and non-restricted.

Generally, I would agree with you. I think the person who started this thread was looking at the best rifle fpr the money -- if you didn't have much money. If you have lots of cash laying around, yeah - get the Swiss Arms. If you are on a budget, get an SKS.

It all depends on which the application in which it is being used.
Hunting?- A non-restricted Rob Arms could be had on the high end, and a Kel Tec SU16 on the cheaper end.
Competition? Really any AR would do the trick, but in competition, you would defintely want a high quality carbine. Just because I'm getting one, I'd personally recommend the NEA-15 CQB 10.5.
Shooting Range Plinking?- I think the Kel Tec Sub2000 or JR Carbine takes the cake in this category, especially if you're getting one chambered in the same magazine/cartridge as your handgun.

I guess mine was a 3-prong answer, but I figured it was the best way to justify the "best black rifle".

I find it funny people suggest the 700 dollar norc when you can buy an NEA for 1000 bucks that comes with a rail and is made right here in Canada.

I noticed just fine. My post was sarcastic humour directed at those who take these DVDs too seriously.

I guess I touched a raw nerve with you there fanboi.

Wicked_police drives me nutz too :p but hey its Xmas, so BIG holiday hug for all 3 of us :)

300 bucks is not a lot for how much of an upgrade it is, but no, I have my own addiction to spend money on :D

This is more of a general statement than anything else... I honestly don't understand the fixation on price. Yes, at the end of the day it's always great to save a buck - but even if you reload, you're going to spend far more on ammunition than you ever will on the rifle.

I can almost guarantee that most brand name ARs will vastly outlast any Norc, so unless it sits in the safe or is generally not shot that much - you're almost always better off spending a bit more on something like a Stag or LMT.

But that's just me. I know lots of people who love their Norcs; most have owned numerous ARs so they know full well what they're getting into - so more power to them. I'm still on the fence with the NEA - mainly because it's still relatively new. Again, for a few hundred more I'd stick with a brand name AR.

NEA-15. Sure you can go cheaper. Or you can spend 5 times as much. But considering the specs, warranty, and price of the NEA-15, this rifle is definitely a contender for "best bang for buck".

Before NEA came along, a Canadian made AR was not in the cards for me. I drooled over the ATRS and dreamed about Dlask Arms and I still do. But "best bang for buck" black rifles these are not. For me, the satisfaction of owning a Canadian made AR is a big part of the bang for my buck.

I know they are new. I know we don't have reams of range data to pour over. I also know the people who build these rifles are here on CGN. All the time. They answer questions. I've witnessed them improve both their communication and their rifles in a very short period of time.

All things considered, getting a Canadian made (and warranted) AR with those specs for that kind of money makes the NEA-15 my choice for "best bang for buck" when it comes to black rifles.
