Best brands of .22lr ammo

This questin comes at an opertune time, purchased a Savage MarK11 BTVLSS six weeks ago and have gone through the gambit of finding the ammo it likes the best.Remington target, T22 target, plus several bulk pack offring from Reminton, winchester and CCI. I found the Remington target the most consistent until yesterday, last week picked up one box only (50) of CCI stinger, this round in my Savage produced nearly one hole groups @ 50m, I am very impressed with this "premium product"

I've been happy with the consistency of the CCI Blazers, but I don't shoot more than 50m or so with the .22.

My 10/22 VLEH eats up CCI Blazers, Winchester Wildcats, and Federal Bulk. I also tried Remington Gold but they mess up my fingers loading the mags.
I've had some fail to feed with Winchester 555's with the 10/22 but no issues when feed to the Henry lever.
Like others have said, try different types and buy what works best for your rifle.

CCI Blazers for my Savage Mark II Heavy Barrel. Deadly accurate to 75 yards. I tried the Federal Champions Bulk box and my gun hated them, they really mucked up the barrel.

I took mt Browning T-bolt out to the range a week or so ago and sighted it in at 50 yards. It had been sighted in at 25 yards before. Did all my shooting off the bench on bags and used three types of CCI ammo. I started with CCI standard velocity to start sighting in. I then moved to CCI high velocity HP's. The groups climbed an inch or so but were about the same size, about 1 inch or so. I then switched to CCI green tag which were around $16+ per box and the groups were all under 1/2 inch some around .390. Definately better ammo but if you are shooting off hand with a semi auto etc. probably not worth the extra cost. Cheers Roscoe

If you're going "target" with the Stingers ;) , you might want to sight-in specifically with 'em....:nest:....:D

Sorry didnt really specify. I have a muscled up bolt i shoot for hunting and target that I only shoot stingers out of and all other .22's I have I use federal. the Stingers shoot like a foot higher at 50yrds than any other rounds.

I bought a pack of winchester "555" at walmart for $22 with tax. 555 rounds of 36gr 22LR plated hollow point @ 1280fps. The 22/45 ate them without a hitch.

I only shoot CCI in .22lr, stingers being my least favourite between them, blazers, minimags, and velocitors(?). Minimags being my favourite, but unobtainium. And blazers being best bang for buck.

I'd say it depends on what your gun likes, what you want it for and what your expectations are. Most of the cheap stuff is ok to make your gun go bang, but that is it. You will hardly ever get spectacular accuracy from it; but on the other hand, you might not need it, either.

My 10/22 with factory barrel likes Winchester Power Points, which is what I mostly shot with it, but Lapua trainer would shoot groups half the size of the PP, so I shot it at paper. But now that it has a Kidd heavy barrel, it just loves Lapua SK's and Eley ammo. It definitely hates Win 333, as do all of my other 22 LR's.

I have an old Winchester M77 Semi that likes CCI Velocitors and shoots ok with Winchester X-Pert, but definitely hates stuff like CCI Stingers. My Norinco M93 likes the Federal bulk pack stuff and my Husqvarna 22 loves the Lapua SK, Eley and RWS Club. And so it goes...

So, you'll have to test to find out what your rifle likes and how much you want to spend on ammo. The good stuff can be a little pricey.
