The idea I like is if the budget is $2000 - buy a $500 gun and $1500 of ammunition. You'll know when you are better than the gun!

I've got the basic government model Norinco; goes bang every time. I, like many wanted to not like it, but I was pretty astonished how accurate and reliable it is! I might treat myself to an extended beavertail and maybe some G10 grips, and I may even clean it one day.

Norinco "Sport" model. Tricked out Norc 1911.

Just out of interest, how accurate is a Norinco Sport? I realize that different people have different definitions of what accuracy is (for some, it hits a target at 10 yards and for others it stays in an 8-inch X-ring at 50). In Mexico, my 1911 was set up with a Clark-Para ramp barrel and a Briley Bushing that was tight -- yet the gun funcitoned 100%. It was as accurate as my K-38. In other words, you could shoot the PPC with it right out to 50 yards and expect to do the same using either/or. Over a table rest, and given unlimited time, my K-38 could keep all six shots in the PPC 10-ring at 50 yards IF I could do my part -- which was not all the time either. And my 1911 could match that.

So where does the Norinco stack up? I don't expect it to meet the accuracy standards of a handworked match pistol, but it would be nice to know where it stands. Enough people are praising them to make me think they sure can't be all that bad for the price. Oh, and are the 9mm barrels ramped? I mean, some pistols are coming that way now.

I have an earlier "Sport" model without the Bomar type sight. It has 3 dot sights.
I have not shot it. I am installing a Wilson Combat spring kit before I do.

Norinco, Hands down. I tried a Tisa( crap) and a auto ordinance ( more crap) After the Norinco, my next choice would be a basic Springfield. Used ones go for 650-750 range. And after you trick out the Norinco, you will have the same amount, or more anyway…

I am more of a dynamic shooting sports type than a benchrest/accuracy shooter so as far as accuracy out to 50 I have no idea, but I can tell you my experience with a Norinco Commander in a recent competition. I recently received a Norc Commander from a buddy on the agreement that we would shoot an IDPA event together with 1911’s. I shoot Glocks in competition and although I realize they are not renowned for incredible accuracy, I do quite well with them against other brands. I have never shot a 1911 in a competition and have never shot .45 in a competition either. Shooting standard IDPA targets at ranges of 3-20 yards I was surprised at how accurate the Norinco was. Out to 20 yards I don’t think I took a down point and on a couple of occasions stacked a couple of double taps on top of each other, one piece of tape for two holes lol. I was pleasantly surprised by the 1911, most of the time I lost that day was due to stupid safeties and tiny mag wells hahaha, not to the guns lack of accuracy:)

Bought two NP29s one new, one used. Changed the sights on the first one, then blasted and parked it. Shot it a lot until I eventually went with a S&W M&P Pro CORE with DeltaPoint Pro.
I use the frame of that one with my MechTech CCU.
The other is set up with a Colt .22 conversion unit.

I have had just about all their different offerings, and still have most of them.

The CZ clones have been outstanding.

The SIG clones work well, but are not as accurate as the CZ and 1911s.

I have the 1911s in 9mm and 45. The Sport models, out of the box, are the nicest. The clean slide 45s were early production and somewhat rough compared the the Sport models.

After that free 1911 deal with a case of ammo, I was able to buy a number of those clean slide 1911s for $200 to $225 and were the perfect platform for playing around. One got a 460 Rowland barrel. A 9mm got a 7.62x25. Both shoot very well.

After a trigger job, all of them shoot as well as the real deal. All my 1911s got new grips (Hogue palm swell) and most got new sights.

I echo Ganderite.

I have a NZ85B in 9mm, I put a pair of take-off overmolded CZ grips on it (fit right on). Sights are fine out of the box. I put a bit lighter hammer spring in it and the already nice double action pull got a whole lot better.
