I bought most my mags at local stores, some I've ordered from Wolverine. You just have to keep your eyes open, when they're here they're here, then poof they're gone. Act fast when you see them. 10 packs are a good buy.

Since I've had mine, the adapters for the sks came out, making the mags a little more scarce.

Corrosive surplus through my XCR?
Umm... ya, that's the good stuff. Seriously, it's the best ammo you'll find.
I'm a couple mags away from 20,000 rounds through the rifle. All but ~200 rounds were corrosive. Looking at the barrel or gas tube, you'd never know. The piston shows some minor corrosion, but we're talking pin sized marks.

When I get home I remove the piston/bcg/gas valve, then muzzle in the sink, hot water down the barrel and gas tube. Let dry, splash with oil, on with life.

If shooting surplus ammo, you might want the "HD" hammer spring. Wolverine carries them.

Good luck

Sums up how I roll with my XCR as well. 7.62x39mm and it just chugs along with the corrosive ammo at gas setting 2 and 100% reliability.

Yep you gotta snatch em all up when you find them, I've got nearly 20 of the XCR Pistol Mags now + magwedge couplers.

BTW Jdiep, if you have 5 round 5.56mm magazines around you can use those with 7.62x39mm ammunition, but you will only be able to fit 3 rounds in them until you get 7.62 magazines.

Ok thanks guys . I'll buy that spring too. Does it take any 7.62 ar mags? What is this adapter talk? How does it work?

If you're referring to the XCR adaptor it is to allow 10 round XCR magazines to be used in the SKS platform

I have one ordered for mine

If I ever decided to buy one, id go for 762x39. they are refining the design and i'm hoping the next generation will have addressed all the issues.

I've had two in 7.62x39 one quad rail and one keymod. Managed to buy both used and flipped from one to the other without spending a lot. Just keep you eyes peeled on the EE. I have to say the keymod is wayyyyy better. I also bought the parts to convert to shoot 223/556. The difference in recoil is hilarious. The only thing is mags. I brought in some through I run guns but they weren't marked pistol so have to be pinned to 5 rounds (internal block). If only I could mark them pistol mags....

Also I find the Romanian or Czech surplus much more accurate and cleaner burning than the norninco. I only shoot corrosive if I'm going to shoot a lot in one session and have time that night to do a thorough clean. I find a pulling the barrel and soaking all the bits in hot soapy water in my kitchen sink works great. Air blow it all dry then clean and lube as normal.

Finally when doing your "build" keep in mind weight. The front end on the keymod gets heavy real fast when loaded with tacticool accessories. After trial and error I kept it down to a small rail section for a bipod, and a lightweight keymod heat shield/grip set.

If your just plinking... yeah 7.62 is great, you can do medium sized game hunting with it too.
I bought an M variant because it is my hunting rifle, and I like to shoot 400-500 meters (not so much at game but gongs)

pre keymod is fine, you can get the side rails milled off and matching vents added for about $100
hydro dip is about $300

your still under used keymod prices... and have a bad ass looking rifle

I purchased my mags from wanstall...but I know its on back order pretty much everywhere so get on a list. I only used non-corrosive on mine. Hoping to raise enough cash to get barrel and bolt for 556.

No arguing X39 if cheap plinking is top priority.
I have 5.56 w/.300BLK conversion barrel(.300 is for sale in EE btw)
I went 5.56 because I'm more of a hunter then high volume plinker, and XCR is my go-to coyote rifle....and I want something fur friendly....and in my home province of NB,stupid caliber restrictions for year round plinking/winter yotes etc forbid centerfire rifles >.23cal.Live in AB now for last 5yrs with no such stupid restrictions, but who knows, might move back to NB some day?
Bought the .300BLK barrel on a whim/impulse buy, thinking it might be fun to hunt deer with XCR,and to comply with AB regs requiring >.23 for deer.....but since realised I already have several better choices/ballistically superior deer/elk/moose rifles,so I'll likely never use it as such......hence why it is for sale.

I hear you there ... and it's not like those caliber restrictions did anything to stop poaching anyway .. more stupid regulations and restrictions.

Mine was in 6.8SPC. Ammo was not cheap if you bought it. It was about $20 for a box of 20 for Hornady VMax. (Literally a bang for your buck.) If you reload, however, the price drops to being very slightly more than .223 (due to more powder req'd). The 6.8 SPC round is a compromise, but a good compromise. You get almost the muzzle velocity of .223 with a bullet about twice as heavy (typically 110 grains).

Who removed and milled the new holes in your upper for 100 bucks iam interested in haveing this done to my xcr also looking at getting my heavy barrel on a diet but not sure whether to have it turned down or fluted
