Hey for everyone with the 7.62x39 where do you get the mags? I just bought a conversion kit for it and would like a couple more mags. Also..... do you use mil surp corrosive ammo???
I bought most my mags at local stores, some I've ordered from Wolverine. You just have to keep your eyes open, when they're here they're here, then poof they're gone. Act fast when you see them. 10 packs are a good buy.
Since I've had mine, the adapters for the sks came out, making the mags a little more scarce.
Corrosive surplus through my XCR?
Umm... ya, that's the good stuff. Seriously, it's the best ammo you'll find.
I'm a couple mags away from 20,000 rounds through the rifle. All but ~200 rounds were corrosive. Looking at the barrel or gas tube, you'd never know. The piston shows some minor corrosion, but we're talking pin sized marks.
When I get home I remove the piston/bcg/gas valve, then muzzle in the sink, hot water down the barrel and gas tube. Let dry, splash with oil, on with life.
If shooting surplus ammo, you might want the "HD" hammer spring. Wolverine carries them.
Good luck
Ok thanks guys . I'll buy that spring too. Does it take any 7.62 ar mags? What is this adapter talk? How does it work?

No arguing X39 if cheap plinking is top priority.
I have 5.56 w/.300BLK conversion barrel(.300 is for sale in EE btw)
I went 5.56 because I'm more of a hunter then high volume plinker, and XCR is my go-to coyote rifle....and I want something fur friendly....and in my home province of NB,stupid caliber restrictions for year round plinking/winter yotes etc forbid centerfire rifles >.23cal.Live in AB now for last 5yrs with no such stupid restrictions, but who knows, might move back to NB some day?
Bought the .300BLK barrel on a whim/impulse buy, thinking it might be fun to hunt deer with XCR,and to comply with AB regs requiring >.23 for deer.....but since realised I already have several better choices/ballistically superior deer/elk/moose rifles,so I'll likely never use it as such......hence why it is for sale.
How much weight dI'd you drop buy having the side rails removed. ..I'm interested in doing the same.
If your just plinking... yeah 7.62 is great, you can do medium sized game hunting with it too.
I bought an M variant because it is my hunting rifle, and I like to shoot 400-500 meters (not so much at game but gongs)
pre keymod is fine, you can get the side rails milled off and matching vents added for about $100
hydro dip is about $300
your still under used keymod prices... and have a bad ass looking rifle
