Looking for something with more than a .22 can offer. CCI has quiet loads going out at 710fps in a 27" Cooey barrel, but a beaver often requires several. I've read countless articles; looks like a long barrel with a tight twist, but those seem hard to find. A repeater in a handgun calibre would be nice, and a scope mount. Any ideas?

Something like a .45-70 I guess could work? Use a heavy lead bullet with a fast pistol powder so the pressure peaks early then drops before the bullet exits the muzzle? What range do you need?

I think 100-150 yards is my limit. I'm not sure how the bullet weight or calibre affects muzzle blast, bigger might not be better..

Muzzle blast is manly due to the difference in pressure between the gasses in the bore and the outside atmosphere. A lower pressure cartridge would have less blast, or at least blast volume, for that reason. Velocity requires a lot of powder to achieve if you compare bullet weight like for like - a .22lr vs a .22-250 for example. A .45-70 is just like a big fat .22lr.

A lever or single shot rifle chambered in 357 magnum shooting 38 special is very quiet, should kill beaver a lot better than 22 quiets.
Or if you handload you could load subsonic loads, I shoot 70 gr roundnose bullets out of my 223 with trailboss at around 1000 fps, sounds like a 22lr subsonic but has considerably more energy with the heavier bullet.

22 hornet if you want to reach 150y. If 75 y a 22 mag would work. Shot a lot beaver with 22 mag a shot location (head) is still required if want the beaver.

I believe those CCI rounds you referred to are only the 29 gr. bullet loads? You could probably step up to the CCI sub-sonic 40 grain bullets going 1050 IIRC and be pretty quiet. The Remington Subsonics are fairly quiet, too. I think there is a 50 gr. load out now also for .22 RF.

Have loaded 45-70 with a 375 gr. cast very quiet. Used a small charge of Bullseye so the pressure at the end of tube was low. Also, .44 Magnum out of a 20" rifle loaded halfway between .44 Special and Magnum was barely louder than a .22 LR. Sounds like you want quieter however, and just loading for Special loads might give you what you are after.

Ive been loading 71 gr campro plated 32 special bullets in my 7.62x39 in front of 8 grains of unique, they stabilize fine out to 150 yds and group into 1 1/2- 2 inches reliably at 100, same with a cast 115 grain in my howa mini.

I've used varying loads down to 4 grains but the cases are pretty sooty with the light bullets, on the other hand a LFB 170 grain cast works just fine all the way down to 4 grains, 8.5 grains seems to be the sweet spot accuracy wise, pretty quiet too

Cci quiets are loaded with a 40 gr bullet.
I have killed raccoons with the cci quiet segmented hp. One shot each.
If you handload you can turn virtually any of your rifles into a quiet rifle. Using cast bullets is far less likely to get a bullet stuck in your barrel.

I think a large bore airgun will be the quietest and hardest hitting option because they have next to no muzzle blast to begin with, and very little heat at the muzzle. Sadly anything supersonic is not going to be an option here, but a big lead pellet at 800-900 fps should down a beaver nicely.

My buddy just shot the largest male badger I’ve seen. 22 K Hornet and 45gr homemade bullet (from 22rf case) I haven’t shot a beaver in a number of years but had great luck with 25-20,32/40,& 35-40 all with lead. Seldom had to shoot +100 yds. Head shots to stop the risk of them diving and being lost. All are going to make more noise.

A friend if mine years ago swore by his 25/20
I tried it and it certainly was quiet and deadly !
Cast Bullets and light charges
I used to load down my Deuce with Unique and it worked well
