"Best" cheaper .22 (under $250)

By far the nicest rimfire I have ever owned was a brno #3 (now cz) The action seemed more like a center fire rifle. Shot like a house on fire. I'd choose cz if you were going to spend more money.

For less maybe the winchester wildcat would be a good choice. This is a toz78 with a bit better wood if remember correctly

Thats the best buy right now if you wanna shoot some tight groups, and it comes like with 50 mags, and its a Winchester:D

It looks like a terrific rifle for the money but I don't thing the varmint model is available in Canada. The Sporter model doesn't have the adjustable trigger and the barrel is a lot lighter. If I could actually get one of the Varmint models for the $280 or so they were advertised for I'd jump at it but the sporter doens't interest me much.

May I suggest the JW-25 and 25A?

They are great rifles despite a few quality control complaints (which affect a minority of rifles I'm sure). They are inexpensive, robust, have a 5 round removable magazine, are copied from a proven design, accept a scope out of the box, and have a great vintage milsurp look to them!

'cept they are not available new anywhere.

i am also considering JW15G now... but it had mixed review...

They were as of quite recently. Lever Arms had that $100 sale not too long ago.

Marstar is always out of stock, but many of the rifles in private hands (of which there are thousands upon thousands) are still in like new or new condition.

Don't bother looking at older Mossberg .22s, of any kind. They're all rusted out, poorly built, inaccurate junk. Junk I tells ya, junk.

I would TOOOOTALLY buy one of these if there was a sale like last christmas. man oh man was that ever a good deal. Wish i had snatched one up.

Me thinks Grouser is trying to corner the market on old Mossy's. :D
Great rifles, don't believe him.

Or find a nice TOZ 78 on the EE. Cheap like borchst, strong like tractor and probably my most accurate and favourite 22.

I bought my Cooey Model 75 single shot bolt-action rifle for 50 bucks. It's that true, that I've won rimfire competitions with it. It's accuracy is insane. There's no need to spend hundreds if you want a .22 for plinking.
