By far the nicest rimfire I have ever owned was a brno #3 (now cz) The action seemed more like a center fire rifle. Shot like a house on fire. I'd choose cz if you were going to spend more money.
For less maybe the winchester wildcat would be a good choice. This is a toz78 with a bit better wood if remember correctly
Wildcat Target/Varmint

Thats the best buy right now if you wanna shoot some tight groups, and it comes like with 50 mags, and its a Winchester![]()
'cept they are not available new anywhere.
i am also considering JW15G now... but it had mixed review...
nobody mentioned the cooey? no gun collection is complete without at least one. get a model 60 for $100 and spend the rest on ammo!
May I suggest the JW-25 and 25A?
They are great rifles despite a few quality control complaints (which affect a minority of rifles I'm sure). They are inexpensive, robust, have a 5 round removable magazine, are copied from a proven design, accept a scope out of the box, and have a great vintage milsurp look to them!
I would TOOOOTALLY buy one of these if there was a sale like last christmas. man oh man was that ever a good deal. Wish i had snatched one up.
Don't bother looking at older Mossberg .22s, of any kind. They're all rusted out, poorly built, inaccurate junk. Junk I tells ya, junk.
just got one for my wife. $289 comes with a decent scope brand new from factory cant go wrong.OK, 10/22 fans are here so now I can suggest the Remington 597.![]()

On a similar note, buy a well taken care of Toz-8. Sliding tangent sight, single shot, therefore no mags to buy or wear out. Accurate, robust & cheap, spend the saved $$$.......on guess what.
