Best combat handgun...

Glock 19 in its oem form in all but a complete "The Road" type scenario. In that case it would be old school GI 1911 or a revolver because parts can be made by hand and can run on black powder in a pinch.

The CZ is the one gun i have not owned. I held one once. Am I missing out? Would the shadow be the best one to buy?

With three 1911s in her locker, my wife was introduced to the CZ "Shadow". After a few magazines, she looked at me and said - "Dear, I've found MY gun!". Now she owns a pair of them. She did have a pair of SR9s, taking her 'Black Badge' with one. Both have since been purchased by IDPA shooters.

I converted hers to left hand operation. Bit of a PITA as the screw you have to remove to change the mag release is in TIGHT! I like the option of DA or cocked & locked.

I was an inveterate Browning Hi-Power many for years (Ex-Regular Army), shooting into IPSC 'A' class with them. Sold then to buy a pair of Colt 1911s and shot back into 'A' with them. It was easier with the .45s.

If I was to shoot a 9mm today, it would be the CZ shadow. Seems to be preferred by some over the Shadow 2.

Glock 19.
Compact and lightweight.
Easy maintenance no extraordinary tools required.
Few moving parts.
Reliable and strong magazines.
No manual Safety.
Overall a very reliable and accurate Pistol.

I would have to say 1911. Its gone through 2 world wars and has proven it self over & over. Its gonna be 106 years and still going strong .!! Not to many hand guns can make that claim or will in our life time. Its been copied by every other country in way or another.

My choice would be the Sig-Sauer P320 modular pistol.
Don't know if it's the "best" combat handgun, but I think that it is among the best.
It's among the contenders for the U.S. Army competition for a replacement sidearm, which must be a modular design.
The steel or aluminum sub-frame is the future.

Aren't the Glock 17/22 also in that competition?

I think IMHO that the title of this thread should have read:

For those of you who have actually experienced combat - what are your thoughts though your in-situ experiences and use-of, regarding the 'best combat handgun'......

This would have been more informative than .."....well this is what I Googled and read and,...."...

And the answer would be "none". These would either be whatever was issued and was at hand. Or in case of real combat - it would not be a handgun to begin with. People don't go into combat with pistols for at least a century. If they ever get used in combat its a rare case of "everything went wrong already".

Since thread is a "what if " circle-jerk, you forgot the civil war contenders such as the Colt 1851, 1860, Dragoon, Remington 1858, S&W Model 1 and 2, etc etc etc:p

Thanks. True words.

Wasn't there an old saying along the lines of:

"The only purpose of a handgun, is to keep you alive long enough to get to the rifle you never should have set down in the first place."
