best coyote gun for under $900

I have a t3 lite in 6.5x55 and it's a great rifle. I should shoot coyotes with it.

I'm 3 shots for 3 deer in 3 years. :) The one that did a little bit of damage was a 129gr SST that was a little warm and hit spine. Doubt it would tear apart a coyote much but there would be an exit hole.
 
Some people would say learning how to get closer to your game makes you a better hunter.

If I were in your shoes I'd look at the CZ 527 Varmint or the Savage Lightweight Varminter, get some good glass and a quality bipod.

Also putting some money towards a good rangefinder if you don't have one would be a great idea. After 300 yards I think they are imperative.

The ones built prior to the 580 series had issues but the these newer ones are a different gun. I also work up handloads that tighten groups up vs the cheap box stuff most guys with Mini 14's shoot. Im shooting a 52 gr. Berger HP/ 25 gr. Hodgdon Benchmark
I was out 2 days ago with a fellow CGN'er and killed a coyote at 244 yards first shot with open sights. I verified it with his range finder.
That being said a bolt action will almost always out shoot a semi-auto. And if you're only getting single dogs come in and they hang up the bolt gun is right choice.

I run a Tikka SS in .243 Win. with a 4200/3X9. Also can throw on a red-dot or 4-16 A.O. These configurations allow me to cover a wide spectrum of use. I too am in farm country and walk a lot. The weight is ideal for that purpose. I believe the short lift and smooth stroke of the Tikkas give it a fast and smooth cycle, which allows staying on target easier.
 
T/C venture preadtor in winter camo cabela's specail. For $660 it have a 4-12 scope and you do run the risk of losing it in the field because everything is camo'd so good ;)
 
Id look around for a Ruger Hawkeye SS .223, the 9 twist barrel will let you shoot some higher BC bullets that will help you get out to 500 yards on any given day. Theyre also tough, well built, no nonsense rifles.

The 223rem is nice when close to residences as it is a little quieter.

The 243win bucks the wind better and also makes a good deer rifle if you choose.

I agree, I mostly bowhunt. But becoming a better shot would also make you a better hunter right?
I have a bushnell arc 1000 rangefinder, correct me if I'm wong but there is no way it will pick up on a coyote at anything past 300yards

I've never used that unit but if the bushnell is a 1000 series I would expect over 300 yards on animals. Good luck with whichever rifle you choose. Have you looked at the laminate tikkas?

Do not listen to this guy....he drives chevys :p Have a look at the Savage 10 PC. very accurate and short, Detachable mag ( made of metal ):D. Deadmeat complains that it is heavy but I think he is getting soft :nest:
 
I have:
a savage model 10 predator in 243win
a remington 7615P/camo in 223rem

I also use 22 hornet and while I just traded my Remington, I still have a savage.

If you want a semi I would not think twice about using a mini 14 or mini 30 either.

I had a tikka in 243 that was real nice.

I saw Lebaron had tikka t3 lites for $599 (more for SS) that would be my pick if i had to buy a new yote rig. They also have a 2.5-10x 40mm Bushnell elite 4200 scope for $299. or a bunch of leupolds on sale for $300-400...There you go for $900 or so plus tax and shipping an awesome yote rig! Get it in 243 or 270 and you get a deer gun too!
 
Do not discount the Weatherby Vanguard on that list. I own two of them and although they are heavier than my T3's they are very good value.
The Vanguard stainless/laminate is a nice gun and a few hundred bucks less than the similar T3.

I really like my lam/stainless T3 in .338wm too just because it is very light and the recoil seems alot less even though its a larger cal. It's not quite as accurate but it is a nice rifle to shoot.

The T3 would be great. If you are hunting smaller varmints like gophers the 22-250 makes a lot of noise so I would go with a .223.
 
nice pics finstr. do you regularly shoot coyotes in the head? Or am I just seeing things? You saskatchewan guys getting along OK?
