Best Dangerous Game Rifle?

Well I ended up with a .416 Remington Magnum, in a remington model 700. I topped it with a Leupold VXIII 2x8. Then I added a dlask muzzle break and a limbsaver recoil pad. I am off to the store to pick it up this morning. Then to reload some and head to the range. Really looking forward to trying this thing out. I would have gone to the .375 however I decided against it for ego reasons. And I found a good deal on this gun. Thanks for all of the advice, I think it is a common enough caliber, and a reliable enough action. Cheers guys, you are the best here!

Congratulations!!

The brake has little effect on a 416 Rem FYI....Too darn efficient!
How much does it weigh?

RL-15 in case you didn't already know.

I have scars from mis-mounted scopes....If the rifle is light it will come back at you like nothing you have ever seen before....Boomer is not kidding!

Don't forget to post pictures of the range results.

Ever see a picture of Elmer Keith in Africa, holding a boltgun?? No, it's always a big double gun, usually a Cogswell and Harrison if I remember correctly, 'nuff said!

I know Elmer had a .500 NE Boswell he killed an elephant with, but he didn't suffer from a lack of hardware, so he likley had several. FWIW, I think a person has to have long exposure to the double before he can claim proficiency. After 10 days of hunting with one it was still not natural for me, that didn't help the buff though.

You thinking of getting one????

Perhaps we need to invent a double rifle time share.LOL!

I have recently purchased a .375 Ruger. Any scope mounting tips so I dont get magnum eyebrow? Any particular scope( would a rapid z 600 conquest work)?
Congratulations!!

I'd go with a Leupold VX3 2.5 - 8X there really isn't all that much recoil to a 375 Ruger/H&H so standard eye relief scopes will work fine...

Scope choice

Hi there, I also just bought a Ruger 375 in the African offering and am also thinking about my scope options. I won't be doing any grizzly or other dangerous game work and like sitting on stands and a bit of target shooting. For that reason, I won't be putting a 1.5-5 Leupold on mine. Don't get me wrong, I love these scopes and own several but my 375 will probably see a 2.5-8 Leupold. I tend to like just a wee bit more magnification for target and load development purposes. But to each his own and the lower magnification models do have their strong points. Have fun!

I prefer Canon or Nikon. If you are worried about your skills, and may need a larger barrel, you could use a 400mm or more. A really skilled hunter who knows his prey can shoot with a 110, or even a 50. This way multiple people can shoot it also.

I put a 2.5-8 Vari X III on my 375 RUger. I've had a number of these scopes on my rifles, and they are great size for general hunting of big game out to about 500 yards, and have good eye relief. I think it's a perfect scope for a .375 that will be used to hunt with from 0-400 yards.:)

If I ever decide to get a .500 I think it will be built on a Ruger #1. Sullivan wanted to sell me that rifle, a John Wilkes, for $40K! I passed. 10 full days of hunting and when we were leaving I still thought it was a club. It packs a punch though.
