I shot my best ever "USBR" target today :). Scored a 245-5x out of 250. This target is a lot harder then it looks. 10 ring measures .100 in diameter.

My original best was 240-1x

This was at 50 yards. THe gun used was a Winchester 52D with Eley ammo.

Why did you only fire one shot at each target

He shot it that way because the rules say you shoot it that way.
It is a LOT harder than shooting groups because you have to move the rifle between shots. It is a much better test of the skill of the shooter. It is also easier to score and to see who has the better target. If cz452shooter was to shoot 5 at each it would just be one hole and there would be no way to tell if some shots were in the center of the hole or nearer the edges.
245-5x is an exceptional score for that rifle, I know, I used to own it.
That score is better than I ever shot on the same targets.
Lots of folks that like to brag about their groups try the USBR target and the bragging stops.
Scoring an 8 is harder than hitting a deerfly
Scoring a 9 is like hitting a small housefly or empty .22brass head on
Scoring a 10 is like hitting the white tip of a wooden match or hitting the matchstick head on.
Scoring an x is like shooting through a quarter inch washer without touching it

That score is like hitting 23 of 25 match heads
24 of 25 empty .22 brass head on
or hitting 25 deerflies in a row
at 50 yards.

oops, wrote that when I was tired last night
It seemed like no one would acknowledge his excellent shooting.

Thanks Everyone :).

Appreciate it. I find that a lot of guns, like my Valmet Finnish lion will shoot really good groups, but when you get to a target like this, where you have to change the position of the gun it gets real hard. My best with that gun is a 231.

And reg, thanks for the "comparisons." I have never thought of it that way before (such as hitting 24 out of 25 .22 brass head on). :)

That is really superb shooting Jordan, congratulations. Which type of Eley were you using? Just curious....

Thanks Slash5

I was thinking we would take a break from the postal matches for the next few months. Let things warm up a bit and then maybe start things up again maybe March or April.

Shot my best 25 yard score yesterday as well (yah, yah, only 25 yards  :D ;))

It scored 250-20X. I have shot many 250's at this distance, but never this high an X count.

Can you put that in layman's terms?:D ;)

Wonderful shooting:D And thanks to reg for explaining how a USBR match is shot. Not familiar with this discipline as I only shot Sporting Rifle in the past.

Bat: the USBR (stands for United States Bench rest) and is mainly shot in the states, but there are a few of us in Canada, such as myself and "reg" that shoot this target, or used to, and enter our scores into the online matches on Rimfire Central. Makes for a lot of fun and definately improves your shooting. Its neet to see how you stack up against others :)

Very fine shooting Jordan!! I have a 50M target shot in '04 with my 541T that scores the same as yours, and it is also my personal best. My best 25M is 250-21X. Like you stated, 250's at 25 are not too tough with good equipment, it's the x's that are hard. My targets were shot with Lapua Master L ammo, which My 541T really likes. What are you using for sights? (optics) Regards, Eagleye.
