Best first handgun

Put a shout out to local club shooters and offer to pay for a few mags of their caliber of choice.
It will put variety in your hands and come with the experienced owner as well.
You'll get a feel for what it will cost to shoot a given gun, how they shoot for you and what it costs to get into that gun.

That, and you'll meet some like minded shooter folk you may shoot with for many years to come.

Or, get a reliable .22 and shoot a dozen bricks, then roll the edcuated dice on liking whatever you trade/buy up to.
If you're not thinking .22, you should as many have said.
It's just the sensible way to learn pistol shooting and still save for larger caibers.
I doubt anyone has regretted owning a 22 pistol - maybe regret not owning something else sooner, but not having a 22...
Couple bills could have you shooting.

Thank you for your reply.
There is only one range/club in my area on the Gaspe Coast. They are not renting guns there and unfortunately, I don't know anybody yet. I tried one hangun in my life and it was a Smith & Wesson 5900. I really enjoyed it.

I said I wasn't considering a 22 because I am not going to buy a lot of guns. So I want the first gun I have to be one I'll use for a while.

Thank you for your answers.

OK ! Time to make new friends !!!

Join up and just hang out. Watch the shooters on the line what they are using.

At my club - the members there are always nice and love talking about their pieces(guns). Strike up a conversation @ your club. Dont be shy.

You will get a wealth of great info all the way to huge BS. Just be cool and learn whos talking good info and whos talking trash.

Most members are more than happy to let you handle their pistols - even fire a few rounds. Remember its a social club ! get Social !

If you are going with only something to break into pistol shooting - consider a 9mm. Cheep to fire - cheep to purchase bullets. Easy to learn on.

Heres a thing to consider- ergonomics.

Check your hand size and purchase a pistol that fits your hand.

Have fun shopping and be safe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS - dont let looks be your only qualifier for that first pistol....
My first pistol ever & no it doesn't really fit my hand..HK Mark 23 Its expensive to shoot (45ACP) It would be classed in the open division in IPSC which means I would finish probably dead last but boy doesnt it look just so bad ass ?! & Then I got a 9mm ! LOL.
