I whole heartly agree with you regarding a custom gun. But my main concern in my comments was the standard everyday hunting rifle which is not ment to ever compete with a custom gun. I have owned so many different rifles in my lifetime and can honestly say, none were ever a piece of junk or not worth the time as some people think and none have ever let me down, maybe I am lucky but that has been my experience so far. You just have to keep your expectations in check. The price point tells you what you are getting and if you remember that, there shouldn't be to many issues. I also understand that every maker could make a lemon, but it shouldn't classify the whole line.

Old milsurp rifle. 100 yards, 308, 155gr Palma's, 46 gr varget, 2.850" OAL.

Pretty happy with this for 5 shots. Maybe even MOA minus the "Flyer" lol

My Savage 110 in 7mag is my most accurate hunting rifle in my safe. Only cost me $425 for rifle, sling, scope and shooting glasses about 15 years ago. Savage rifles are junk but they shoot very well so what can you really say.

I would agree to a point. The difference between a highly tuned customized rifle which costs $3000 or more is that it will put down jaw dropping groups, time after time, year after year until the barrel is worn out. There are no such things as "fliers" or unexplained shots. If you can call the wind, you can put the bullet exactly where you want to. An ordinary rifle with only slight modification cannot do this. However these expensive rifles are reserved for competition and not really practical for anything else IMO. (That's not entirely true of course) My Sako 75 Varminter in 6ppc which cost me $1500 is and probably will always be the most accurate factory rifle I'll ever own now or in the future. I'd bet my house against anyone that it would outshoot your rifle (short range) but it doesn't even compare to my fully custom benchrest rifle which cost more than twice that amount.

In fact, the Sako Vixen 6PPC USA is so good that it's the only production rifle/ammo combo ever tested by American Rifleman which produces better than 1/4 MOA 5 shot groups aggregates!

Last year, I shoot a Remington XR-100 Rangemaster in 22-250 which was also a true 1/4 MOA rifle. It's a custom gun but it's also the most accurate rifle that I've ever handled or shot.
