Best gunsmith in Canada?

It doesn't matter what you get built. You can buy a stock Rem700 Police(Tactical) or a Savage 10FP and it will shoot with the best of them.

If that was the case,a great many target shooters are wasting their money on top end components. So how many benchrest shoots do you suppose are won by totally stock Remingtons or Savages?

Here's the rub, take a line of competitive shooters, all knowing how to dope wind and mirage with the best .
some are using mass produced factory rifles, a few are using custom jobs that are made to extreme tolerances.
All other things being equal, and every shooting doing well that day , who's gonna be in the chair at the end of it?
Chances are it won't be one of the factory shooters.

granted, it can be done, and is done in many matches, but in top flight competition, you are going to use the very best you can afford.....

I have shot targets and had groups that where as good as any I have seen with a custom built rifles, but each to there own. The factory rifles I own are cream of the crop in my opinion. Many of the top Emergency Response Teams use Rem 700's and they work well for their precision shooting.

How many benchrest shoots have you attended?Have you at least researched a bit to see what kind of accuracy is necessary to be competitive at a benchrest event?Have a look at the group sizes listed at the link below.Do you think that you can match them with your factory rifle?

Emergency Response Teams use Tactical Rifles.Tactical rifles, and Precision Rifles are not one and the same. Each is built for a different use,and the accuracy requirements are different as well.

The best Emergency Response Team Rem 700 would probably place last at any Benchrest Shoot...

They are excellent for what they are meant for however...

I'm interested in the opinions of those who actually have the experience with this.

Who in Canada makes the best, most accurate rifles from Rem 700 actions? There is little doubt that GA Precision or perhaps TacOps in the US are the best, considering their 1/3 MOA guarantees and their incredible resumes of successes. Is there someone that good here who can turn a 800 dollar factory rifle and a 500 dollar custom barrel into a real precision tool that I won't outshoot in a season?

The original question here may have been either lost or misunderstood.
First it was asked "who makes the most accurate rifles from 700 actions, then the two rifles mentioned are made by companies who build tactical style rifles.
Certainly a tactical style rifle would not be seen in a line up in the same competition as a short range BR rifle, or on the line of a large Fclass or 1,000 yard BR match.
However, the fact remains that accuracy is just that if we are talking pure accuracy, and even the Tac Ops rifles come with a target that was shot off the bags , and I would not expect to see a mass produced factory rifle shoot as well as a tuned custom.....

Lets try it this way,,,

You can dress any rifle up to look the way you want (benchrest gun that tooks more towards the tactical side or vice versa).

What you will/want to do with the rifle will determin how tight of tolerances it would be built to. For example, a rifle with an operational tactical unit must function under all conditions, thus, you would not want it built to benchrest tolerances otherwise the slightest bit of dirt and or rain and you could have big problems.

A well built custom will shoot circles around a factory rifle, even a high end one.

Any good gunsmith can make it look however you want and there are a lot of good builders around.

Decide what you want to do with it and then discuss this with whom ever you choose to build your gun.

Actually the first statement is not entirely true:redface:
I was invited to a BR match in August this year, and as I only own Tac style rifles went to the shoot with what I had. The line left ALOT of space between me and my bipod supported mag fed Tac rifle and the BR rifles on their fancy mechanical supports. Despite feeling like trailer trash from the wrong side of town, I held my own (not finishing last), learned ALOT (thanks to the local BR guys) and had a ton of fun.
Hopefully I will have all the required bits soon so I can then proceed with building my own BR rifle with a slightly Tactical look to it.
Your second statement I wholly agree with. There are some factory produced rifles that do shoot well, but my money would be placed on a skilled shooter producing better consistant groups with a custom rifle than an equaly skilled shooter with a factory rifle.

Contact one of the smiths that build F class or BR rifles. There are several that post on CGN.

If these competition rifles only shot 1/3 min, they would be sent back for repair.

If you mean an accurate rifle that can function under field conditions, there are even more options. some don't even need a smith...

Ah yes, Rick, I should have said that one would NORMALLY not see a tactical style rifle at a BR match.
And I doubt that next time you go to one you will not be shooting that same rifle, but something with a solid bottomed action with a flatter fore end!
Quick boys, get the net , you snagged another one!:D

As I am fond of saying these days, "Shooting small groups is not a matter of life and death..... it is more important than that!"

To that end I think we will run an Introduction to BR Clinic at Rosebud this coming year. Interested parties should PM me.

I'm sure that you can shoot in the 1.1s with the best of them.
