Best hunting lever action calibre

I have a very nice BLR in 325wsm, but good luck sourcing ammo

if you find it buy it even if you don't need it

I have my dads 300 savage that he purchased new some time in mid to late 50s and my cousin has our grandfathers 303 savage with a hexagon barrel both still work like new and group tight !!! Great old rifles

Looking at getting a lever action, what larger caliber do most reccomend? Was looking at 44 magnum but willing to hear opinions about other calibers

I like my 45-70 but I am 75 yards at most in my area.

I always say if In these threads.

Buy once cry once..

Get a Bighorn Armoury in 460 or 500S&W mag and call it a day.

Nicest gun I own by far now that I’ve figured out how to properly hand load for it

Personally I don't have any of the larger calibers I m stuck on the 308 used it for years I find it's pretty well all around calibre for my purpose if the day ever comes I switch up to larger game will consider heavier options

348 winchester
35 remington
38-55 winchester

These are the kind of cartridges I would be interested in if I were getting a lever gun

For decades I guided with a Marlin in .444
I would shoot grouse and ptarmigan with 2.5" .410 shells, loaded like a single shot and the Marlin ejected them without issue or bulges. Never tried it with a 45-70. But with a .444, it is perfect.

You can even load the chicken loads right in the 45-70 brass, or the 444 brass for that matter. Then seal either with wax or cardboard/glue. Worked great with the hornady brass.
