Best Lightweight .22

I have a Magnum Research MLR 1722 with aluminum wrapped barrel and it's around 4lbs. It works wonderfully and dances in my hands,

The Marlin 795 is light and very accurate it can be had at cabelas, probably on sale right now too

I'll second that if you are just looking for a nice semi auto plinker. Very accurate and eats any ammo you want to feed it. Mine prefers cci 36 grain.

I'll concur with a couple of the other posters here and suggest looking at the Magnum Research guns. Particularly the carbon fibre tensioned barrels. Reduculously light and way more accurate than your expect. My go-to gopher blaster is a Magnum Reseaech.

The only downside is that they have an march (bentz) chamber so they can be finicky with cheap bulk ammmo.

The magnum research guns are a good buy for sure. Their barrels are top notch, as are their receivers and bolts. They save a few bucks by using stock Ruger trigger packs so you may want to factor in the cost of a Volquartsen or Kidd trigger, which brings the cost closer to a Volquartsen rifle.

I do like my magnum research. A lot. But if Volquartsen is in your price range, you may be best served by ordering the Volquartsen of your dreams from https://wanstallscustom.com/

I paid $800 tax/shipping included for my Magnum Research from Prophet River and it's surprisingly not that picky with ammo. I put a Vortex Razor red dot on it and it's a fantastic plinker. When I did have a scope on, it would shoot less than 1" at 50 yards in the factory stock. It didn't like the MagPul X22 stock as that created a pressure point on the barrel and accuracy went to sh*t.

Thanks for all the comments. I am well versed on Volquartsen, Magnum Research I know little about. Are they similar quality for less money ?

I also heard about Dlask but know little about them as well.

Based on price and quality Magnum Research looks like a good buy, that said I can afford the Volquartsen. I would like this to be my last .22 rifle, a keeper so to speak.

Who are the best distributors for these rifles. I am in Edmonton but I don't think anyone sells these rifles. Milarm used to sell Volquartsen but I am pretty sure they no longer do.

I was looking to build a very fast light weight rig for steel challenge. It came down to the Magnum research MLR22TB or a Custom Dlask. I went with Dlask because I can do it in a sporter chamber and get better reliability. (Which is perfect so far). BUT the dlask receiver and 12"
SR22 barrel is noticeably heavier then the Magnum research. (Just over 5lbs vs the MLR which is just under 4lbs).

There is also some other... quirks with my dlask but I need to do a bit more work with it before I post any conclusions.

CSC has one of the MLR22TB in stock. (Last i checked)

I built a heavy barrel Ruger .22 awhile back, I could put 3 bullets in the same hole (at the range with support).

That said in the real world I could not hit a beer can, it was too heavy to free hand with no support.

I would like a accurate light weight .22, who and where can I get one ?

Thanks Jay

If you're looking for a lightweight semi auto, I suggest the Marlin 60 tube mag, weighs 5 lbs. Around 300$ new, 200$ used on the EE if you are lucky. Reliable Gun in Vancouver, BC has the Marlin 795 which is the box mag version. Same accuracy and reliability as the 60.

I had two 60s which I stupidly sold. They were 100% function reliable and could consistently do .5 inch 5-shot groups at 25 meters, with Winchester bulk high velocity.
